i received what is supposed to be a new motw english mvs cart yesterday. the cart is uncolored clear plastic. it has what looks to be an original SNK header w/ serial number.

without having to open the cart, are there any noticable things in the game that would let me know if it were a bootleg copy or not? thanks!

beat the game and beat kain (average fighting level of AAA). if you get an ending, it's legit.
also, if your scores are WAY high above the pre-set scores, or you see some ugly glitches during name entry, it's a bootleg. plus, since the case is clear.. check if the chips have windows on top, or are very flat black squares.
both are bootleg.

Since its a clear cart, just look for the protection chip on the bottom board. MOTW boots would not have that chip in them, since they're made from dumps of the beta code which is unencrypted.

The protection chip is a fairly large (about 1"), square chip, I believe surface mount with LOTS of pins connecting it to the pcb. It's on the lower board, so you need to look through one of the sides (not top or bottom) to see it, and as I said its on the lower board.

Just sell it to me, and you won't have to worry about it anymore! <IMG SRC="smilies/drool.gif" border="0">

there is a large chip on the lower board. that's probably what you're talking about. the pcb also has "snk 1999" printed on it. i'll post pics when i get home tonight.

Mines green too.

Spike; I don't suppose you want to trade your Sengoku 3 for mine?

Mine is mint green too. It's a Japanese MVS cart, seems to be an original but I'm not sure. Sound was distorted the first time I fired it up but after doing a little cleaning it seems to work fine.

What exactly are the endings? Are they specific to each character? I think I'm averaging over AAA but every time I get to the second to last opponent (with different characters) it just shows Grant's hand (some text scrolls), then his body (some more text scrolls) then it jumps right to the credits. I heard credits = original cart so what's the deal? Do I have to get at least an AAA grade every match, without losing?
