Hi Peeps!
Well here's the rub, I have a cab wired to MVS standard, and I want to play Jamma PCBs in it!
I know others around here have a similar problem, and more still have Jamma cabs, and want to be able to install a multi slot MVS board!
So can we all please put our heads together and make the dog bark!

OK, problem is, MVS is stereo and Jamma is mono.
Jamma uses -5v MVS dosent,
MVS uses 4 buttons, and a select button, jamma is 3 and dosent. (mostly)

My greatful thanks to MVSHolic for ALL the information I so far have!

SO, the buttons thing isnt a problem, you just add the new button, and select.
We can do that! <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Next the -5v, well you could put a switch on those wires, just in case the MVS board dosent like them when its in, so thats cool!

THE TOTAL WANKER IS!!! (no, not me <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">)
STEREO! And the differences in the wiring of that!

So, why is pin 11, (part side) on the MVS board "Audio + Mono"? can you wire it as mono or stereo? or does it output a mono signal on certain games? Why does it need this connection?
If you can wire it as mono ONLY, does this mean you dont need to connect pins 10 and "L", can you use any gnd as speaker-?
Thing is, I'd put up with mono sound, if I could easily switch and play my jamma pcbs!

If you need to have all of it wired, how can you wire it so a Jamma PCB will play correctly in mono?

Do help out on this please guys!
I'm pulling my frigging hair out trying to figure it out!

Here is the comparison of the wiring.
If you dont have it.

Go to Bob Roberts

and order a Jamma to Jamma connector kit. Then you can build an adapter that you can wire for standard Jamma that you can plug into the MVS wiring harness and then plug the Jamma board into it. With this setup you could also run a -5V line to the adapter off a switching PS or a computer PS to get the full Jamma setup.

This is a project that I am working on as well. I hope to have the adapter finished in the next week or two and pictures posted to
hardMVS There is also a Jamma vs MVS wiring pdf on the site as well.

I started with a generic jamma cab, with the most bodged wiring youve ever seen!
So I started again, and wired it to the MVS diagram in my manual.
I was lucky enough to get the remains of an old harness to use!
I stupidly thought Id not bother with Jamma PCBs <IMG SRC="smilies/spock.gif" border="0">

Now, I can see that an adaptor could be the easy answer <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

How are you wiring yours?

btw, the MVS boards do NOT mind if there's -5V connected. the pin is simply not connected on the pcb, so it doesn't have to be disabled or anything. same goes for the 4th button, jamma boards that don't support a button there simply leave the pin disconnected, so it will not cause any probs.

Like Arakon said it doesn't matter if there is 5-, and the 4th button is not a prob, I connect jamma boards in my candy all the time, the sound problem; what I did was install a switch, between the jamma connector and the speakers, one side for mono boards, the other for MVS stereo boards, also remember some Neo Candy's are wired mono, even though they have 2 speakers.

Devilman,
I'd really appreciate it if you'd give me a bit more info on how you've wired that?
Why does the MVS board even have the Mono+ pin?
Does it need to be connected?
If I sound like I know nothing about electrics... <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
I really dont! I rewired my cab like I was doing a paint by numbers!

I certainly hope you grounded those buttons when you added them. <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

Ok, here's the deal:

Audio Pos(mono) on the MVS wiring is to accomodate jamma boards. If you look at the schematic in the manual, by default it is not hooked up. You can use this along with Ground to run one or both speakers.

I should have my adapter done in a week or so, and it will address this issue. The only other real Jamma to MVS issues are the test button, which is no big deal and the -5V.

There is no problem as far as I can tell in hooking -5V up to your MVS harness and using it on your MVS board. There are no traces on E or 5 on the MVS board other than where the connector touches so you SHOULD be safe.

Checkout the new Jamma to MVS .pdf file on my site - it has been updated with additional notes, some concerning sound.

On the post above about the MAS system, the pinout he lists is still a mono output. The mono to two speaker part of the issue has to be addressed in either an adapter or wiring
