Normally the spindle spins freely... and you can move it slightly with your finger... well... it doesn't budge.

Also, I tried messing around with it a little... but the friggin thing "depressed" into the system a little bit.

anyone know a simple fix?

Something like that happened to my PSX after lending it to my nephews, they pressed their thumbs on the spindle while removing a game disc, and that a lil' too hard. In this case, I had to exchange the spindle because it was damaged, the mounting hole on its bottom (where the drive motor transmission is located) was damaged beyond repair.

Also check if there's any dirt in/on the moving parts.

Typically this is a result of an impact or abuse, and usually it's easy to fix. Just pop up the platter the CD rests on. Usually this can be accomplished with your fingers or a screwdriver. Apply firm steady pressure, and don't try to move it quickly.

That said all my neo CD units are packed away and I'm going by memory here, so if it explodes I'd like to be held blameless.

lift that center spinner with a screw driver.... are you sure?

I tried it... very softly... but it seemed to not want to budge.

Another thing, if you slightly press on the spindle, does the part where the spindle is and the CD head below bounce back? It has anti-shock springs and "hangs" in some sort of a cradle, so it should move up and down.

seems to be springy :)

it has some bounce back.

But that center spindle is still stuck down ... I was trying to turn it ans see if I could get it loose... and it wouldn't turn.. its now 1/8 inch lower.

Should I just try to pry?
