i saw a brief video on youtube of one of them and it looked like a leisurely paced shooting game. for some reason it also reminded me of Magical Chase (another game ive never played). seems light-hearted and well animated.

can the shooter fans here give me their impressions of the games they've played and would you recommend them?

Cotton: Great old school shooter. The PCE port's graphics are downgraded from the original, but the CD music is awesome.
Cotton 2: Outstanding game, with a crazy fun chaining system.
Cotton Boomerang: Similar to 2, but more of a straight shooter, also a really fun game.
Panorama Cotton: One of the better "Space Harrier" style games out there.
Cotton 100%: I don't like this one, way too easy, too bright, too ugly.
Rainbow Cotton: Ruined by terrible controls.

The main arcade games are all worth it in my opinion. The 3 spinoffs are more of an aquired taste. I'd say Cotton 2 is the best of the series. But the PCE port of Cotton 1 never gets old to me either. Though many people complain that PCE Cotton is too difficult because of it's very harsh experience based power up system.

I am not big into the series or anything but of the various cotton games I've tried cotton 2 and cotton boomerang were pretty damn cool and worth checking out for any shmup fan.

cotton on PCE may be a lil oldschool for some, and the one on dreamcast I didn't enjoy at all.

it sounds like the first one, Cotton 2 and boomerang would be the ones i'd want to try out. if panorama cotton is like space harrier, i might want to pass because space harrier has always been sort of average to me. i like the side scrolling shooters and top down perspective.

You might also want to pass on Panorama because it's one of the more expensive Mega Drive games. It goes for $150 to $200

I love Cotton 2 - def. one of my favorite Saturn games. I only have a CoreGrafx so I can't play the PCE game. I'd like to get the Super Famicom one though.

It's also a terrible game as is Rainbow Cotton.

Stick with Cotton 2 and Boomerang both are worth a few credits.

I enjoyed the games in the series I've played (Neo geo pocket, genesis, dreamcast) the dreamcast version is probably the worst though

I played through Cotton on PCE as well as the PSP collection of Cotton games, and as much as I love the bright cheery colours and cute sprites, I can't get over how slow the whole thing feels...
