Sound From Hyper 64 Sound Connector?

OK, how would I go about hooking up my Hyper Neo Geo via the sound connector right above the volume control and close to the JAMMA connector? The problem I am having is that all I am getting is mono sound from the Super Nova (JAMMA is mono only). So when I use my receiver for the audio, I have to work some crazy magic to get sound from all of my speakers.

Before you recommend using a floppy drive's power connector, I will tell you that the pin layout may be the same, but the connector will NOT fit into the audio port on the HNG (REV 2 JAMMA). I may be able to shave one down, but was hoping there is something better I can use for this.

Also, would I be better off buying the line level converter and connecting it to the audio out from the HNG64's audio connector? The signal from the audio connection on the board IS amplified, correct? I ask because I am not entirely sure and don't want to purchase anything unnecessarily.

Any info or assistance anyone can lend is greatly appreciated! Please don't recommend Radio Shack for the connector... I drove 45 minutes to get there and was told... "we don't carry stuff like that." It's RADION SHACK! If they don't carry it, WHO THE FUCK WOULD?!

Anyway, sorry for the rant...

there is a stereo switch on the underside
and also a mvs jamma switch if your supergun supports stereo on your mvs just switch to mvs stereo and stereo will come through your jamma harness

Thanks for the info, but unfortunately I can't get sound this way as my receiver won't play an amplified signal (just like the dude in this thread.) That's why I want to run the audio through a line level converter and basically "deamplify" (is that a word?) the signal before sending it on through to my receiver.

Anyone else have any ideas?

You will have to buy a line level converter. You can pickup one from Best Buy in the car audio area for about $20.00 bucks. You will have to monkey around with the converter to get proper audio line level out puts because I am not sure the actual power out put of the Hyper 64's amp I have never sat down and figured out what its power out put is. As for the audio connector that is on the board good luck finding one. I have a rev. 1 board and searched and searched for one of those connectors and have never found one. crying Hope that helps.

i just had a look at my hyper rev.1 and rev.2
so the rev.2 had this connector right ?
the brown one near the volume knob
my first thought was it looks like a connector for older cd drives on pcs you know the white ones wich connects the drive to the soundcard havent tried yet but ill try this tomorrow

I checked the black ended CD cable and it's too large. I think the white connector may be too small. Try it out and let me know... if that's the case I have plenty of old crappy PCs at work I can hijack a CD sound cable from... Thanks for the heads up on that one... Hopefully this one pans out. Definitely let me know!

The other thing I tried, as I think I said, was the 4 pin floppy power connector. That's a no go as well, but I THINK the spacing is the same, so if I shave off a ton of extra plastic I may be able to get it to fit, but that's not how I want to do it, I want to do it properly.

Thanks CheapNeoGeo and Pocket Man for the input so far! Any more input is appreciated.

@CheapNeoGeo on the rev.1 is the stereo plug the white big one next to the additional 5v power plug

@slerch666 the little white connector is too small but the black ones fit if you put it in upside down

On the rev. 1 the smaller of the two white connectors just below the JAMMA connector is the stereo plug. The larger white plug is for the additional 5v which is very important to a rev. 1 board. If you do not hook that up your Hyper 64 board will still work, but not for long it will die.

Slerch what I did for my sound in my cabinet is I just, because I could not find that type end on the stereo harness, cut off the end that does not go into the Hyper 64 board and I put male quick disconnect ends on the wires and pluged them into my speakers, I have a harness comming off from my speakers w/ female quick disconnect ends. So your best bet is to run your stereo harness from the hyper cut off the end and put male RCA ends on the harness and plug that directly into the line out converter. That should get you up and running.

Oh it fits..but the pins aren't long enough to make a solid connection. I've tried long and hard to use the rev2 stereo sound output. frown

Fuck me. Why can't they make this shit easy?

Maybe, since I CAN get the stereo sound out of the JAMMA harness with the Hyper (it's wired the way you would get Stereo from an MVS board. I'm useing an MAS Super Nova), I will take the outputs from the Gun instead of directly from the board, into a line level converter and then from there into my receiver? That should work, right?

That would be a little easier than Cheap Neo Geo's idea, although his idea could work as well...

Thanks for all the tips so far!
