I do a question; I'm having a bit of a technical issue with Metal Slug X. I'm trying to use it in a 6-slot board with a Unibios 2.2 (I'm not too familiar with the bios chip); At first an error message came up, so I cleaned the cart. After that, I put it in, and fired it up again and it worked but was in Japanese mode. When I went into the soft dip settings, the name of the game didn't show up but it recognized there was something in the slot. It would let me go in and change settings, but the names of the settings were missing (as was the title of the game.) Do you have any idea what might be causing this? At this point, the cart is clean, and I fully believe that the cart is absolutely a perfectly working cartridge.

I'm just wondering if any of you may have some insight as to whether the Unibios is causing the minor errors, or if the cart is not perfectly compatible with the 6-slot board. Let me know whether you have any thoughts or not.

Also, what's the ideal voltage for a 6-slot mobo? What is the best way to test this with no risk of damage to the board or multimeter?

Did you try clearing the backup ram? I had a similar problem with a cart and that did the trick for me.

I have not. I'm not having any luck figuring out how to do that. Please advise me on how to clear the backup ram.

Thanks!

Boot up into the hardware test... (:B:+:C:+:D:)
then go through tthe screens until there is the last one which should tell you to hit all 4 buttons (abcd) iirc, then you can exit out and it should be reset.

also of interest for you:

"If you use B+C+D to enter Test Mode right after putting a new game that hasn't already run in the system or after a BackupRAM erase, its entry in the SoftDIP screen will be currupted. You need to let games boot up at least once first so they can set up their SoftDIPs in the BackupRAM correctly. "

As for the Voltage requirement for a 6 slot, you need AT LEAST 9 Amps on the +5v.

Matt, Thank you for all the help buddy! I'm gonna go try that right now.

James, Thank you for the info! Should that line be exactly 5 volts, or more like 5.1? I should test that right on the JAMMA harness, right? Is there anything I need to be careful of? I remember hearing at one point that there was some risk of damage if I did something incorrectly there.

Thanks guys!

Technically you want it at 5.0v, measure it at the harness with the mobo connected.

Okay. That brings up the test menu. I assume you mean I should enter the hardware test. The first screen there is the crosshatch. The second is another test where I can flip between two data lists with the D button. I can't find out how to progress through the tests from there. . .

You've gotta be joking!!

Ive powered 4 slots off supplies that output considerably less than half of that, and theyve worked fine.

You're comparing the needed current between a 4 slot and 6 slot?

A 4 slot needs 6 amps if you want it to run correctly using big meg games. I'm pretty sure you tested it with low meg games with maybe 4 amps. Go and put some 600 meg + games in there fully loaded and tell me how it runs.

MKL even did a current test on a 4 slot and it pulled 5.12A. If they were bigger meg games they would pull more juice.

This is a dumb argument anyway, your cab's PSU should be capable of 15A.
