I posted this in the 16-bit Neo thread. Refer to it via this link please:

<a href="http://www.neo-geo.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002067" target="_blank">http://www.neo-geo.com/cgi-local/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002067</a>

The issue I'm having is that I just received my Neo Geo Gold US system and it came with a memory card. The problem is, that whenever I insert it and call up the card manager screen, I can't format or alter the card in any way...if I try to format/etc I get a "card is write protected" message. Does this mean it's dead, or is there some problem with my Neo Geo memory card slot? Or is there some way of removing the write protection? There doesn't seem to be an option via the card manager screen and there is no write protect feature on the card itself. Just curious...any help would be appreciated!

I've gone ahead and searched for Memory Card-related topics throughout this board. While the Write Protection problem is brought up in several threads, the resolution/cause is not clear. In other words, no one seems to know how to fix it or what the real problem is.

Can someone please help me out?

If you can't format the card (like I did) then just toss it and get another. It is really easy to format a card and I am sure you have doe that in the Neo Geo system's options on its little operatig system. That little system was way ahead of its time, the debug BIOS makes it even better. :)

This is only a suggestion, and someone may have tried it in the past.

Perhaps you can take the card to a Neo Geo arcade machine with a mem. card slot, and see if you can reformat it there.

Forgive me, if I am mistaken.

You cannot format a card at an MVS machine.

Sounds like a good suggestion. I believe there's an MVS unit at an old playland/arcade not far from me. I'll go there this weekend and give it a shot.

Can anyone confirm if cards can be formatted directly on the MVS machine?
