My xmen has no sound from mono or stereo. I think the sound caps have corroded, is it fixable, or will I need to get a new board?

The sound circuit on that board sucks as it's mounted on a very fragile raised PCB.

Someone might be able to replace the caps.

Do a search. There is info about it. I know for a fact that channelmaniac won't touch it.

Your screwed. You have two options, buy a parts board or a new board. This is all based on if the problem is with caps on that custom chip

There is a guy who will repair it online somewhere but he charges $150 if successful.

Dude the board isn't worth $150, I would not pay that to get a 6 player version fixed. Its cheaper to use a parts board if you must repair it

It's actually less risky to FIX the parts board...lol

I desoldered all the pins once, clean as can be and as soon as I pryed a bit it cracked in half. And that was a working chip too.

I know you were mad as hell, the way I do it is to use solder wick until it falls off itself

It's not worth $150 now. But it makes you wonder if sooner or later all of these konami boards will have no sound. The only one I have now with no sound is Lethal Enforcers. If the spare pcbs dried up in the future I would gladly pay $150 to get my dedicated konami cabs up and running. Right now its not really feasible but will it be necessary later. Who knows. Maybe someone will create a replacement for that custom "chip".

Hopefully someone can make a replacement for the sound chip in the future or tomorrow.

Yeah, I saw that, and the chip on his is a bit different from mine. I'll just toss it aside for now until I get better solder skills.

Only around 45 percent of konami games use that particular ceramic custom sound chip, not all of them. Since audio caps are guaranteed to fail eventually in all pcb, having them entombed in a custom chip like that is a liability. In a collector environment even a replacement from a parts board will last you a life time.

I doubt anyone will take the time to reverse engineer a custom chip for a almost 2 decade old pcb
