Stupid monitor CAP kit change question...

From reading, I know doing a Cap change on a monitor fixes things like rolling on the screen and other weird problems. My screen doesn't really have any burn in it, which is great but my monitors picture is just kind of washed out and not as vivid as i'd like. Would a cap kit change make the picture better?
Thanks for any info!

Is your monitor dim? As in, when you say the picture is washed out, do you need to raise your brightness setting alot just to be able to see the picture?

no, it doesn't really seem dim, just seems like no matter how I adjust the knobs on the back, the picture never really gets the vividness i'm hoping for. Maybe i just ruined myself playing games on my new candy cab. Of course coming from that the monitor on my old beat up neo-geo cabinet would look sub par. I'm just looking for ways to restore this cabinet to a nicer state.

Cap kit would probably help restore the picture to more what you want. Especially if your monitor is old.

Here are some photographs of the back of my monitor...can anyone help me ID what kind of monitor this is? It looks like it's a "Rauland" but i see a sticker on another part of it that says "williams". I'm also not sure if the model number is "19vmbp22" or EIA1101. I can't really measure it properly, but looks like it might be around 19" (aren't monitors measured from the top left of the monitor to the bottom right?)

I'm just trying to make sure I buy the right kind of capacitor kit (any recommendations on a good place to buy one?)

thanks again for all the help

Well, then. A cap kit NEVER hurts.

Unless you fail at the soldering, at which point you might break it :P But, if it's any consolation, I don't have steady hands at all and my soldering skills are quite sub-par, and I managed a cap kit, so most people should be fine.

The cap kit (and a cheap eBay degaussing coil) took my monitor from what you see in the first pic to what it looks like in the second.

EDIT: And see above post for best source of cap kits. He doesn't do PayPal (it's illegal in Louisiana or something), but he's a trustworthy guy to send your money order to.

wow, thats a big difference in that picture! Good job on the cap replacement! I too am terrible with soldering...
Any idea what model of monitor I have in my cab from the pictures i posted? I'm not clear on the brand (Is it Rauland or Zenith?) and what the model number is.

Oh, when that monitor fired up the first time and none of the caps popped AND it looks like sex compared to its original state, I was overjoyed.

Also, tough to tell from the picture. Although people often say they're giving their "monitor" a cap kit, you'll actually be replacing the caps in the chassis (that's the circuit board that connects to the monitor), and IIRC, that's where you'll find your manufacturer & model number you need to order your Bob Roberts cap kit.

thanks for clearing that up! I will look next tim I have the cab opened

Also, just in case you're unaware... don't touch anything that might have a charge. From what I hear, it hurts.

Call me a bitch, but I wore rubber gloves and discharged it first :qcf::A:
