Is there anyone here that does this? I've never soldered anything and considering the board dies after an hour I don't think it would be the best starting point if I can simply pay someone else to do it.

It's cake. Start off by practicing desoldering & resoldering components to some old, dead PCB. Once you've got the hang, do it for real on your CPS2 board.

If it takes you more than an hour to solder TWO leads to the board (after a little practice on something else for a while), you might need help. The serious kind.

It's scary, I'll admit, but it's not really difficult.

I'll be glad to do it if you REALLY don't want to, though :)

Yeah it seems simple but the whole "suicide" board thing makes it seem a bit more intimidating. I suppose I'll try my hand at soldering and if it goes bad I guess I'll be back here.

Even though you generally have 45 minutes to work you can short something and kill the charge instantly.

Go for it. However, do your practicing on SOMETHING BROKEN. It'd be terrible to break something that works, lol.

But, as XX pointed out: Yeah, you should be careful about what you touch/don't touch.

If you kill it you can always phoenix it. Seriously though it's not that hard if you have the basic soldering/desoldering skills down. Only takes a couple of minutes to swap a battery from start to finish.
