My guess is the caps are starting to fail,
the rca outputs and head phones are affected.
pcm and redbook are both affected.
sound is smooth no pops or crackling.

Does anyone know what caps are used for the left and right channels
Any duo schematics?

trying to post on http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/ still waiting for admin
approval, been like a week…

Ahh how fun, they're all SMD.

Hope you're good at (de)soldering :) If not, do yourself a favour and send it to someone who is. You will fuck the system.

i do not have distorted or missing audio.

id rather replace the needed caps.

I'd just replace all the caps, there's only what like 5 of them. Unless you want to open it up again if the others die. Dont be lazy.

Plus in parts it's only about $5 total.

The first link I posted tells you which caps control the L/R channels. As Xian mentioned, I'd just replace all the caps as well. If you're going to bother opening it and doing some work, you might as well do a proper job.

soldering does not scare me, been modding stuff forever.
I sure can be lazy ;)
the last time i had faded audio channels problems it was a bad power amp in a sony receiver.
I had the schematics to trouble shoot it.

I guess replacing the caps will future proof the duo.

override
"sound balance chips, M5205OKI and M51131L chips"

"Since you have replaced caps you must know how to solder, replace ALL the caps, and test. If you still dont get anywhere then replace the sound balance chips, M5205OKI and M51131L chips. I can PM you a link to buy both chips if you want. If that doesnt fix the sound start replacing OP amps...If you get anysound whatsoever from the left speaker and it fades after a few seconds or minutes of play you can buy some freeze spray from like Radioshack and when the sound dies start squirting the amps and stuff, if one is getting to hot and causing it to die then you will figure out the bad chips."

My Turbo Duo has some crackling on the headphones port but not on the multi AV out. What would that be indicative of? caps?

Terrible advice.

You don't just start replacing components willy nilly hoping it'll fix the problem. Learn how to diagnose faults correctly, or stop wasting your time and money.
