Can anyone help me? I'm going to college this fall and am really really pressed for dorm space. To help save space I want to get a TV to VGA convertor so i can just watch TV on my monitor, I get a better picture on it anyway. Does anyone know a good but not overly expensive one to get(I live in the US so i guess i would need an NTSC one)? If so where can i get it, it would be better if i could buy it within the US. It needs to be able to browse the TV channels. Please help me. Thanks

I'd go for one of the All-in-wonder cards if you have the cash -- or if the parents do ;)

If you are buyin it, go for a cheapie standalone. It only has to last 1 year, after that you will probably be outta the dorms anyways...

Are there any good external ones. I'll have a laptop so there won't be any room for any cards. I was looking for one of the ones that can actually work without the computer, like a scan convertor i think it's called. Thanks.

The only problem with an all in wonder is you have to be running the pc to use it.

I use a stand alone tuner box made bye Instant TV
It just plugs in between the monitor and the computer.
It has 1 set of composite inputs a coax input 2 sound outputs and a great remote.

The picture quality is pretty decent and deffinatly liveable if you are pressed for space.

Mine was about 129.00 in 1997-98 , Im sure they have gotten cheaper , but I think I have gotten every penny out of mine.

You might checkout their site or go look around CNET Im sure you will find plenty there.

This is the newist incarnation of mine , no clue on the price ? look at www.cnet.com for a review and the lowest price

You said you had a laptop.... you're not gonna get this working on your laptop screen! just get the USB wintv, or equivalent. There are also PCMCIA versions of some.

And if you say you're using your laptop with an external monitor, then you're not that pressed for space. Use your laptop screen for computer and buy a portable tv!!
