Only if you do the piggyback method which I dont recommend.

So I just desolder the old one and put UniverseBios and solder it. Like doing conversion?

Yup but like met said put a socket in so if you upgrade later you can just pop it out.

The piggyback is for the people that dont know how to desolder or want to attempt it. Honestly the piggyback method is more dangerous since you can easily cut 3 traces while trying to snip the leg on pin 2.

I did the piggyback method on my system and it worked great.

I followed this guide: http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/console/neo/unibios.htm

Be very careful when cutting Pin 2, or you could damage the traces underneath it.

Like everyone says, the best way would be to remove the stock bios and install a socket, but since I didn't know how to desolder I went with the piggyback method

The problem with the piggyback is that when the system is closed the cartridge flap will hit the bios chip and sometimes knock it out of the socket. You need to use a specific type of socket for it to work properly, I think if you use a ZIF it pops the chip out.

This piggyback looks lot harder than using bit solder wick and solder iron. I will make the order soon and hope that I dont broke my mobo

Where can you get a socket to install in the AES??? I currently have a piggybacked debug bios installed and would love to go to Universe 3.0.

You'll do nothing but damage attempting to desolder the bios with solder wick. Use a solder sucker, otherwise it's too difficult to remove the solder from within the hole.

The 27C1024 IC is a 40 pin chip.

But, you could've just counted the pins on the existing chip inside the system. ;)

Heh! Havent opened tho console yet just about to dot it? This socket looks kind of wierd. Very small round pins where the rom goes but hopely it will work at least cart rom goes there but not all the way.

Those sockets suck for the piggyback method. If you are replacing the old bios with a socket it will be fine though.

Socket and unibios has been installed. I tried to do it first myself but it was soooo slow and bit hard to do so I took the machine local tv repairer and he popped the bios in for a 15€ (not a bad deal). NICE and so far works great.

Thanks again for help!!!

15€ is a pretty good deal. Have fun with it.
