Consolizing a MV-1FZ - 15 pin joystick connections

Hey there,

I recently ended up with a MV-1FZ that I plan on consolizing. I've made a few sticks and no longer fear the dreaded soldering iron (this will be a learning experience, in other words).

Bought this on eBay.

I plan on following XX's MV-1F guide as far as possible, and will use these other guides as resources for MKL's 5v mod, and JMKurtz's stereo mod.

The last big issue will be wiring up the controller ports. I know that you can get a connector and wire them off the Jamma edge, but would prefer to wire straight from the board where possible.

I know some of you guys have done this, and KPJ and others currently sell units modified in this way.

If anybody can help out with wiring the one and two player connections this way, it would be greatly and forever appreciated. Pics would be a huge bonus, as well.

Thanks for the help, guys. I hope to make this my March project, and am greatly interested to hear what you have to say.

Just wire back off the edge at on the bottom. Should be two rows of 'dots' of solder that go to top and bottom respectively for each dot. You could just solder to there and that way they are off the edge as well as hidden on the bottom.

Thanks for the reply.

I don't have the board on hand yet to look at it, but that sounds reasonable enough.

Is there a schematic or diagram for that to help with wiring each joystick port?

Just use your multiple to see which bead goes to which pin. It will be the one directly in front of it but either top or bottom (can't remember if closer or further row of beads is top vs bottom atm).

Then for what each pin is, just use the pinout diagram (hardmvs, etc).

James also has the db15 pinout on the site as well. Wire that up, minding solder side vs front for wiring up your controls to the db15.

Thanks again.

Sounds like it won't be too big of a hassle then (famous last words?).

Figured I'd put this here for the next first-timer who searches MV-1FZ.:)

I also really want to thanks all the people who have taken the time to figure out these boards and make guides for the rest of us. Also, everyone who is willing to spend some time helping the rest of us out.

Much appreciation!

On an FZ the underside I believe has a resistor array so you can't do the dot technique. I'll check when I get home.

Looks like you can get all the controller connections from the under side. There is an array of ferrite beads on the parts side which is for both 1p and 2p controller connections. You just need a multimeter to see which goes to what button.
