MVH6 owners beware. After splitting the boardset for general cleaning, it would not boot up, just got the cross hatch as if there were no carts inserted. Scratch head, another bourbon, wtf is going on. Tried different carts in different slots only to get the same result :(

Turns out that the 3.6 volt nicad on the bottom board, departed the board, its stuck down with that "pcb glue". It ended up shorting against the SN74 cart switching ICs. There is only a few mills clearance between the top of the battery, which is not insulated and the underside of the top board.

Remedy was a piece of cardboard to insulate inbetween. Fortunately no damage done :)
Thought I would mention it incase anyone else has the same problem.

I will now replace the nicad as it is knackered being ten years old ( they tend to leak on the board and cause corrosion) and glue the new one down with epoxy, for good measure insulating the top of it. Not bothered about the memory issue.
