Memory card weirdness

I just recalled something that happened to me, last year I believe. I asked this once before & nobody knew what to say, so once more: Has anyone else ever even heard of a "write-protected" memory card? It happened one day when I plugged it into an MVS and either attempted a save or load, I think a save. In the end I had to reformat & lose all my data. I even could have called SNK at the time but just never did.

Well no matter, I concluded as a joke that this was SNK's doing, as they always said the card would die & needed replacing after five years, so for anyone that didn't buy a new one, this would be the fate of all their saved games, but the card is certainly more than six years old at this point. Looks more like seven or eight.

While it's no longer a problem for me, I was just curious about what could have caused this, & if anyone else has ever had this happen to them.

Guys, it sounds just like PS2 memory card. I think memory card has limited life and it'll definitely create problem once life is ended.
I have an old Neo memory card and it still works great. On the other hand, my PS 2 memory card died three weeks ago just like two of you saying. Forced me to format again and then that's it. Weird, right? Two different kinda memory cards share the same problem....funny

on the MVS systems
i guess ill try it
out on a MVS system
