My MVS cab has recently started to reset randomly on me unfortunatly. Looks to me like it needs a new PSU.

It's got the first MVS 1-slot board in it and a 17 (i believe, maybe 19) inch monitor.

Is it picky on which PSU it can run?

Would the one on there be okay?

I've had it for a few years and I'm going to eventually renovate it ALL. Monitor needs replacing and the PSU I've already thought about putting a brand new one in to be safe.

Original MVS or Conversion..?

Ditto to the above power supply. It's the same one I always recommend.(it's the match to the original type power supply

If you have a Betsons near you you may be able to walk into the place, order it and pick it up to save on shipping..

If you have a power supply in hand they can match it up..

..If you are using a power supply like in lizards link,>Mean Well 15A Switching Power Supply MWP- 606..Then you may want to use it If your cab is not an original MVS Cab,has been wired up for it...
Otherwise then you may have to cut off the plugs and wire in the original type power supply..I will admit I tried it and it was a bitch,..just too much cutting and matching,it becomes a mess..

The original type power supply is plug in....You plug to Molex plugs already in the cab,I call it Plug and Play..I always check the 5v+ voltage with a mutimeter first though as you don't know what the factory setting is..

General use jamma power supplies, you screw the wires into it .

Example
Two of my Original MVS cabs came with General Jamma-tower type power supplies in it that weren't original to the cabs..The original power supplies burnt out and the opt replaced the power supply with a cheapo basic 15A Switching Power Supply ..LUCILY.they cut the wires out of the old power supply and and screwed them into the 15A Switching Power Supply ..So my Molex plugs were not removed and I was able to replace the power supplies with the box type original power supplies..
I didn't like the way my cabs ran with the 15A Switching Power Supply ,I got lines on screen, resetting and other problems even after setting the voltage right several times..After putting in the original box type power supplies the cabs ran flawlessly..

My Candy cab has a small 15A Switching Power Supply(original to it) ..tower type..I don't like it...I once tried to take a new Original box type power supply from the US wood MVS cabs(happs-hard mvs link) and wire it in to the cab..I had to cut the molex plus off as I didn't have matched ends with wires..........It didn't work..I got all kinds of interference in the monitor as if something else in the power supply is being used that's not in the 15A Switching Power Supply..(maybe the internal power supply fan was a issue)
Something in that power supply doesn't agree with the candy cab..I went over my wiring and later used it in a US wood original cab and it worked..

First, verify it's the power supply itself that is the problem. If it's not putting out enough power it can reset.

If you don't already have a multimeter, you should pick one up. Cheap (really cheap, actually) units can be had from Harbor Freight for just a few bucks. If all you want to do is meter AC and DC power, these work well for this.

If you haven't cleaned the edge connector on the board lately, you should. They tarnish, and it builds up resistance. Get a "Pink Pearl" eraser (yes, it matters!) and gently polish the fingers until they are shiny again. If you have a fibreglass pencil you can use on of those too.

One thing I'm not sure if it's the PSU, it's a multicart I'm using. And instead of resetting to the menu to select games, it resets the game I'm playing...the other games I have it doesn't reset on. but honestly I never really put a lot o time into the games I had in before.
