bullet pattern disorientation

Just curious if anyone else gets this. In certain games during boss battles you will get a pattern with a screen full of bullets moving at the same rate, taking up the entire screen like a giant moving bullet overlay on the screen (example= third part of the stage3 boss in espgaluda)

These patterns are usually actually pretty simple to navigate but something about the whole thing moving in unison perhaps against the background scrolling in the opposite way just totally disorients me and i lose my concentration and die on a honestly quite easy part.

Anyone else have this problem or something similar?

This happens to me too. In some cases I even have the pattern memorized. But when the bullets come out against the scrolling background I seem to lose control. When I watch some videos on youtube it's fine though; I assume that's because of the lower quality.

My ex-wife used to complain about this when I would play Cave shmups and we had a small get together where everyone was watching the screen. She couldn't focus on the screen for too long because she said it would make her dizzy. So you're not alone.

Messed up my first post.. the example was the third part of the stage 3 boss not the second.

That's the part where the bullets alternate in dark and light colors, right? Heard for some people it's epilepse inducing.

nah, they are all the same colour its just the motion they are making, on that specific level 3 galuda boss it honestly looks like they change direction after a while (and they do), but at certain parts it just makes your eyes go all screwy, only for a couple seconds though.

yeah a lot of the time if i have a good score going I'll just waste some bomb energy knowing how frequently I mess up in that spot.

It's really not too hard.. follow the pattern in one direction until you get near the edge, then sneak through the decent sized gap and just follow it in the other direction. But i still find myself at times having to blink and get my bearings back for a split second which is where I have a good shot at dying.

there are plenty of areas like that in other cave games, But it's esp galuda that sticks out in my head as I'm playing it frequently.

There was another similar part that had a similar effect in ketsui DS I remember. one boss fires off a object off the screen at the top and it rains down a similar pattern that fucks my head all up. but after realizing I could destroy the thing it was a little less annoying.

I've had a lot of trouble with this when playing with my kids. We'll play 2 player of something like Futari, and I can usually get pretty deep into stage 4 on a mediocre credit.

But when I play with one of my kids, they randomly dart back and forth, all the way left then all the way right, etc. When they do this, the screen pans in their direction. Between the bullet patterns and the screen panning independent of my own movements... ugh.. I die left and right.

I almost felt seasick-like the other day after we credit fed through the game (about the only way a 4 year old fights Larsa).

What really fucks with me are the first patterns the spider on Futari tosses out on stage 3.

Final boss on Progear - when he fires that clockwise pattern of close proximity shots, the whole rotation screws with me, although they are slow.

That boss is the biggest thing between me and a 1cc. I head into the stage 3 boss in awesome shape, all my lives, all my bombs.. and I limp away.

There is a spin dizzy in death smiles too in the the canyon stage. The bullet hell cave shmups all feature this effect. They can really make it difficult for shooters. tlh

yeah when I had a friend play futari he commented on how they deceive you into thinking the bullets were doing one thing and they are really doing something a bit different.

The more bullets on the screen the easier it is to confuse someone like that. Depending on the situation it does make things interesting.

I think its only a problem if they are going really fast and typically its not the speed its the volume.

If the bullet pattern start looking like 3D to me, that's when I know my current run is screwed.

I've never got dizzy or anything, but sometimes in the middle of doing fine, even with the pattern memorized I simply crack. Total concentration lost, can't focus on shit and it seems to hit for no reason.

Is it the background screwing with me and throwing my focus off ? Not sure, maybe it is and I've never noticed that's the cause.

Maybe it's failure to comprehend the bullet pattern? I still have this issue with SA.

I def. know what you mean...some of the patterns look to me like those "look at these still photo patterns and your eye sees them as moving" deals.

I lose focus
