Q sound from RCAs in CPS2 boards in New Astro City

I kinda I asked this before but I didn't get a clear answer last time so I'll ask again.

It seems like the The New Astro City cabs have a built in sound amp wired to the speakers, so it's currently wired to take the mono sound from the JAMMA connector. I see a sound molex connected in the power supply, thats where I am guessing the sound goes into the amp.

Does this mean to get Q sound, I have to just cut some RCA cables and directly wire them to the molex connector? Or is there a "cleaner" way to do this? Maybe a breakout board or are there actually hidden RCA jacks in the cab?

Are you talking about the standard PSU? I'm not sure there's an amp in there, possibly just a volume pot. I could be wrong. An actual Q-sound amp is about as large, or larger than an astro psu. (look inside an impress)

Yes the standard PSU. I thought it was amplified, I guess I was mistaken.

Does anybody sell the Q sound amp stand alone? Is it plug-n-play to the astro cab? If possible I rather not hack the wiring so I can plug and play other boards besides CPS2 if needed.

Are you sure NAC is set up for Mono sound by default? I am going to need to double check my cab when I get home... I know on the side sticker it mentions "stereo of the art sound" so I would think it has stereo speakers.

the astros are dual mono, just like most non snk candies. (exception being capcom one's with the qsound amps of course)

In the Impress cab with the Qsound amp, you have to move the molex from mono to stereo for each configuration.

The Potentiometer/Volume control in the amplifier's case just attenuates the audio for Mono/Jamma signals. In the case of Qsound signals, the potentiometer doesn't work. The volume is controlled from the CPS-2's A board and the amp in the cab just works as a power amp.

Ok I'm sure I have a sound amp in my cab. I disconnected the "Audio In" molex connector and I still get sound out of my speakers. That means the jamma mono sound is directly wired to the speakers...

Here is a picture inside the cab:

I don't know if this is the Qsound amp but it's some kind of amp.

ok, that def looks like an audio amp. astros just normally come with the psu only, which looking at your pic is sitting on top.

my NAC definitely does not have that amp in it. I did not realize my speakers were dual mono? I have the QSound Stereo setting on in my cps2 boards and the sound comes out ok. I'm going to look into this further.

Update

Got the Q sound from the CPS2 up and running... let me tell you this is a BIG improvement over the mono from the jamma connector.

All I needed to do is disconnect the connector to the speakers and plug it into the amp:

Cut the "audio in" molex connector and splice in some RCA cables:

Then hook it up to the CPS2:

Very easy to do, if you have a built in amp in your NAC you must do this. Big sound improvement for very little effort.

Sorry digging up old threads. I have a stero cable but I still get mono sound. I even changed the settings to Q Sound.

What/where is the other cable that needs to be disconnected?

the stereo rca cable should go from your board to the stereo amp. then there should be 4 wires coming out of your amp L+, L-, R+, R-. These 4 wires run up to inside the control panel. From there they connect to the wires which run directly to your stereo speakers.

more than likely there is a 4 or 6 pin amp up connector on your jamma harness that you need to swap between to switch from mono to stereo.

Is this the wire? My pen is pointing at it.
