I got a light Green MVS cart of Nightmare in the Dark. Is it a bootleg or does anyone else have one of these as well. It has a japanese label but I am not sure if its real or not..

I got it off ebay from a guy who sells only MVS carts. I did open it up and it does bear the SNK logo on the MVS circuit board, So I am guessing it is a real cart...

The Japanese NitD I had was so cool. Transparent yellow - only one I've seen like that.

It could easily be avail in multiple flavors thouth. My English one is white.

Look for chips with small square/circle shaped "windows" in them... Not sure if NitD has any of those, some carts do, but they are called EPROMs (or EEPROMs??--2 different things, not sure which is which :p ) and can give you a rough idea whether or not it's legit.

The official NitD didn't have any EPROM chips. I have a white Nightmare cart, there are tons of clear yellow ones that I have seen here on the forums for sale... and lastly, Mike at MDGameSales was selling them on ebay and said he had various colors... so I would imagine yours is real. It probably saw a lot of different colors like KOF98.

EPROMS. Erasable/Programmable. EEPROMS are electrically erasable, i.e. no need for UV erasing, so no need for a window ;)

This is interesting. I have a white english NITD kit. All looks 100% legit and original: labels and atworks, but oddly.... I have opened the cart and noticed there is one EPROM chip on the PROG board only, in comparison with the one shown here (the CHA board is exactly the same in mine): http://www.zen96737.zen.co.uk/nightmare_in_the_dark.htm

Below is a pic of the PROG board of mine, with the EPROM chip on the right and the number '2' marked on it (sorry for the bad pic quality):

So anyone can tell if there were some legit english NITD with that Eprom chip ?
Or is my NITD a damn bootleg ? :oh_no:

thanks for your help !

could be a fix if thats the only eeprom.

it is the only one, while the CHA board is exactly the same than the one pictured in the link. Though I keep wondering, even though it might be an official fix, that means it was not mass-produced with that eprom right ? So, I guess this "fixed" version has less collector's value than the one with no eeprom at all :conf:
