Anyone who's been around the tech forum lately knows that I've been trying to learn as much as possible about the Super Nova. So if anyone here owns one, I have a simple question for you that won't take up to much of your time. In Massystem's description of the SN, they say that it comes 6 button Street Fighter 2 ready to support most arcade games. Does this mean that every JAMMA board that uses more than 3 buttons (JAMMA+) such as Mortal Kombat 2 will work right away with the SN?

I got my Super Nova in April.
It comes with the six buttons, but I have not used a game yet that uses all 6 buttons(ex. Street fighter 2 ,etc...).For games useing up to 4 buttons it uses the top 3 and the 4th being the bottom right button(button 6).There is an extra wire coming out that is suppose to be used for games needing 6 buttons. But,like I said,I haven't used any games like that yet.

I have a massystems supernova and mine was wired for the cps 1 boards for six buttons, to get the cp2 set to work I hat to splice into the supernova cps1 kicker.

By default the capcom boards allowed for the top three buttons (punches) but no kicks..

I just got mk2, that one not only needs its own wires for the extra buttons, but the sound didn't work either. I seem to remember someone mentioning that the mas systems superguns didn't have enough power for the mk sound board...or something.

hope this helps.

Are you sure it's not the board 7zark7? I've heard of people playing MK3 and UMK3 on their Nova's without any problems and they both use the same sound technology as MK2.

I believe you have to taylor your optional kick harness to the PCBs' needs. The kick harness the SN comes with is for Street Fighter but as 7zark7 pointed out different boards have different needs. Inevitably you will have to learn a little wiring and soldering to play certain boards. Like Konami for instance, a lot of their boards come with 3rd and 4th player harnesses and you have to make adapters to plug extra joysticks in to be able to play them. Or another example would be prejamma boards. They usually require a adapter to go between the board and the SNs' jamma plug in. Also you may get sick of your SNs' button config on their joysticks and want to build a custom set. The point is is that you wont be able to have access to every arcade game unless you do a little fabrication, or pay someone to do it. I had the same questions as you and had to call them before I was totally clear on the subject. I wouldnt be scared of a little wiring though. Since I bought my SN I've learned to make custom joysticks and harnesses. Maybe some day I'll make a whole arcade cabinet. Anyway, good luck. :)

Lousy Midway made all their boards annoying. The MK sound boards need a ribbon cable, and a 2nd set of cables running between the main board, and sound board.

Does MK1 also use a separate sound board? If I buy a MK2 PCB complete with sound board and ribbon to connect the two, will the Super Nova support it?

MK1 does have the same lay-out as MK2.

As long as the cables for the sound board are correctly wired, I don't see why not.

I have both board sets, and while my MK2 is incomplete (missing some wires), I can take some pictures of each set (MK1 and MK2), and e-mail them to you. If you'd like.

I have played MK1 , MK2 and UMK3 on my SuperNova with no problems . The only thing you need is a AUX harness for the extra buttons and wiring it to the existing SuperNova is relatively simple (I cut the end off of the extra button harness and fitted it with quick connects so exchanging boards for play is a simple as crossreferencing the SuperNova wiring layout with the board connection layout) . Simply put if you can connect a speaker wire to a speaker you can connect the extra buttons harnesses for a game PCB .
If you need the AUX harness for a certain board many can be found for auction on eBay . I just picked up a Killer Instinct AUX harness this week .

Sorry, I ended up being pretty busy yesterday. But I did see your post in the general forum, and the picture you linked. It does look to be a complete set. It's also different than my board, I guess Midway made a few different models/revisions of the boards.

If you still want pix of mine, let me know.

That would be great Rigel! Unfortunately though, no one's bought my AES from the selling forum and I need the money to get the Nova. <img src="graemlins/crying.gif" border="0" alt="[Crying]" />
