Problems with Ironclad and Ghostlop MVS

Recently i bought these carts from a member i know, who also made me my consolized MVS a few years ago. When i received the carts, obviously i tried them out immediately.

I have a MVS 1 slotter in my new astro, and never had any problem with playing MVS, CPS2, jamma boards etc. Always works great. Now when i popped in Ironclad, it started good. But as soon as the plane arrives on the screen and the stage starts, the sound just shuts of. A few moments later this happens, and believe me i tried like 15 times, and it happens every time:

Then i decided, let's try the Ghostlop. First it started with very low sound volume, but after trying a few times it worked properly. The day after, tried it again. Just like with the Ironclad cart, i tried inserting and cleaning the cart multiple times, but this is the startup screen ever since, and that's all there is:

It doesn't work properly anymore, very strange. Other hardware/software still works without any problem.

So i returned the games to the seller, he tested them again on 3 different boards, and they work perfectly. He is very reliable by the way, so no doubt about his intentions.

Now my question is: what can cause these problems? Is it that the power supply needs adjustments for homemade carts? Also, when hooking up my consolized 2 slots on the cab, the carts didn't work either, so it must be the cab i guess.

I also have tried backup memory clearance and all that stuff in the hardware test menu; doesn't work. Any suggestion is welcome!

Is the seller testing the carts on boards with UniBios? Perhaps there is a compatibility issue.

It looks like your RAM is dying.

Is there any corrosion on the board, near the battery maybe?

Yes the seller and myself have the same unibios, version 2.3. I tested the games on my cab with both the 1 slot en 2 slots (both with 2.3), both boards give the same problem. The boards are absolutely in great condition, no corrosion whatsoever.

Hope you guys can do something with this info, if i can check any thing else, let me know!

Are you using an arcade PSU or wall unit?

hi xian xi,

i do both carts for my friend rudie, he sent them both back to me and after testing again, the 2 games works fine here,
i suspect a power supply issue?
a cart with eproms need more power than a original game?

i build a ghostlop and a iron clad for me, and for another friend in france, without any problems.

rudie have issues but the problem don't come from the carts because they works on my slots.

i really don't know what is happened...

Just curious, have you tried an original BIOS?

i never tried with an original bios ,
but if the games works with my mv-2f and unibios 2.3, games needs to work also on the mv-2f and the unibios 2.3 from rudie?

we have the same config, something is wrong with his slots i think?

The bios shouldn't be an issue. In fact the Unibios is giving info about the problem.

Also are these the only games that give problems with the board or do others as well?

Never have problems with any neo cart, also not with any other piece of hardware. The cab has the original small psu. Can take pics of everything if needed. And thanks for popping in max

Hey Jago,

For the Ironclad did you make it using 8 C roms or 4 C roms? If you used 8 then that might be sucking more power. Maybe his PSU is starting to die.

Rudie, if you have a spare PSU give it a try and check.

Rudie,

What other neo games have you tried exactly?

Xian Xi, i have about 50 other MVS games, never had any problems with them. All originals by the way, also have other stuff that works fine: CPS2, bunch of JAMMA boards and one of those crappy 1 milion-in-1 boards. All work great, never had CPU issues before.

I didn't ask how many games you have. I asked which games have you tried. Reason I ask is because the early lower meg games access different data lines than some of the newer high meg games. If this problem happens with another high meg game then it could be a broken trace or cold solder joint.

What PSU are you using?

Well i was trying to tell you i have like 50 games, all working without problems. Including are all the games with high meg count; slugs, motw, kof98 etc.

Here's a pic of the PSU:

That amp has low specs for a cab PSU. You should get a new PSU that has at least 10A on the +5v line. Go for 15A if you can.

Do you have a multimeter to test the voltage and current?

No multimeter here, but i will have a friend check it. But could this actually be the problem considering all other boards just work perfectly with this psu?

I assume clearing the RAM on the board didn't help anything.

Whats the go with all these cab owners that don't even own a multimeter?

Do you trust the previous owner enough to use your PCB's on a power supply he has setup without knowing what voltage it is outputting?
