AES BIOS inquiry

Planning on swapping in a new BIOS for the AES but I've been torn between using the DEBUG BIOS or Raz's. Definitely more benefits to the unibios, but I really dig some of the features of the DEBUG such as level select and some of the neat 'eggs' in Metal Slug (such as X).

I went to grab the install instructions for the DEBUG but it seems the link is broken (via the neo storefront)....
So:
1) I can't remember, but is the DEBUG install the same as for the unibios (cutting pin two etc..)?
2) If they differ at all, does anyone have any links for (or could forward my way) the instructions for the DEBUG?

If the install is the same, theoretically I should be able to just put in a socket and be able to swap between the DEBUG and the UNIBIOS at my own discretion.

Thanks in advance!

It would be an absolutely ridiculous idea to install the Debug BIOS in this day & age.

If the only reason you want it is a few silly cheat codes, ask for Raz to implement them in the next version.

However if you have your heart set on having both, I would rig up a PCB to install in the BIOS socket with both BIOS's on it plus a switch. Simply connect both bios up, and switch their Vcc.

Yeah switching isn't a bad idea at all.

And yes, my heart is set ;) on using both.

The best way I've found to do it so that you can swap a bios quickly is to install a 40 pin socket in your AES. If you or someone you know is good enough to desolder the original bios chip you can then easily solder in the socket and swapping or upgrading the bios is no problem from then on.

Right but I like hewitson's idea of just switching the vcc line so that I can just put in two sockets on a 'floater' pcb, not having to open up the unit to switch BIOS.

You have access in the unibios to activate the same things as you can in the debug bios. In effect you can use the unibios debug dips to activate level select and easter eggs that you talk about.

Didn't know that... thanks Raz! :vik:

I'll have to play around with that... I'll probably end up just shooting you an email then sometime to bug you more.
