I've had this idea for awhile now but it's been just that. I have an old color CRT on wheels that I recently had to do repairs to because the sound on it went out (turns out the speaker cables just came loose.) but when I was in there I noticed the chassis had RGB-GND+ pinout on it.. so here's what I need to know

1) Is it possible to take a JAMMA harness and wire it to a CRT tv
2) If the answer to #1 is yes, how in gods name would I tell it to use that input lol
3) would I need a seperate power supply for the board or can I cross it with the one in the TV/do I power the TV with the arcade PSU?

I would wire the controls to ports that I would mound where the front of the TV is and make some sticks, and cover up the exposed sections of the board with wood and make the stain and all that the same shades.

1) Sure.
2) This probably isn't feasible if you want to use RGB depending on your TV. Likely the TV switches between video inputs and the tuner, then sends the output to a decoder.
3) Most likely since TVs typically have very little electronics and may not even have a 12V supply.

The chassis of this particular has what appears to be the five pins for RGB/s/gnd.

I'm guessing there's no way to just straightwire to it and I'd need one of those encoders.

If you're planning to take power for the Jamma Edge from the TV then there's no way, you'd kill yourself.

So far, seems like a dumb idea.

Hmm, I think the same setup as SSS might be better. He uses an LCD instead and uses an RGB>VGA/CGA converter.

If you need to ask this I suggest you attempt NO electrical work whatsoever unless you wish to kill yourself.

How the fuck are you going to power a TV with 5 or 12 volts DC? Lol.

I suggest you study this until it's burned into your brain. This should be standard study material (arcade 101) for anyone into this hobby. What it dosen't show is the DC wiring to the PCB -- just use your imagination for that part depending on the PCB requirements.

So no go on using a VAC on that. I've not tinkered inside TVs too terribly much so I didn't know what kinda juice the thing pulls.

Ok so I'd be using a standard PSU with an isolation transformer and a filter. Suppose I want to skip the on/off switch so that it automatically powers itself when plugged in (I'm thinking a surge protector strip for both the TV and the PSU with the cord coming out the back of the TV itself). What would I use for grounding the filter.

Coding and boards (specifically, coding) I can look at all day long. Electrical wiring = NOT my forte. :(
