I'm in an Original Game Boy/Color mood. What are some of your favorites?

I was just about to post a similar topic. I just got a Super Game Boy and now looking for suggestions. I got Castlevania Adventure with it. It's not too good. If Hell exists, it's level 3 of that game lol.

The vast majority of those games don't hold up very well, especially compared to their 8-Bit NES counterparts. People may chime in with Mega Man, Duck Tales, and the kind, but those paled in comparison to much better NES versions.

I own a small handful of games that were different enough where they are still playable to this day:

Super Mario Land
SML 2: 6 Golden Coins
SML 3: Wario Land
Operation C
Metroid II
Zelda: Link's Awakening
Castlevania II: Belmont's Quest

Kwirk is another fun one, although after a while I lost interest.

Here are a few that I really enjoyed:

Final Fantasy Adventure: The tragic death of Willy makes me laugh every time.
Operation C and Contra: The Alien Wars
Double Dragon
Fortified Zone
Ninja Gaiden Shadow
Game & Watch Gallery: The reason I got my first Game Boy (a Pocket). Weird choice, I know.

The two Zelda games(Oracle of Ages/Seasons) for the GBC were pretty nice.

I also loved Gargoyles Quest for the Game Boy a lot!!!!!!

GBC Bionic Commando is great.

For original GB, I still play Pipe Dream.

Rolan's Curse.

A zelda knockoff that was actually a ton of fun. Love the items and powering up the character.

Really fun game.

Blasphemy! I'm not going to say that GB is better per se than NES but, to say they don't hold up is ridiculous. I've been a GB fan since it came out over 20 years ago and to hear a comment like this just makes me want to cry. I guess not everyone appreciates classic games these days....:shame:

I've been reacquiring most of the games I used to have when I was younger. It's been about a year and I have about 40 games so far. Just to let everyone know, GB is one of the harder systems to collect...especially if you plan on trying to get all the games you want complete in the box. The plastic inner tray that holds the game and hard shell case in place does not always come with the game, either. Which is a shame because I need like 15 of these....

I can definitely recommend some games you guys haven't mentioned

Bionic Commando (easily 1 billion times better than the NES version)
Gargoyle's Quest (my favorite game ever...one of the best action games, IMO)
Link's Awakening
Kirby's Dreamland 1 and 2
Batman
Operation C
Metroid 2: Return of Samus
Battletoads (I like this much better than the NES version)
Cosmo Tank (GREAT early Atlus game)
Nemesis (of the Gradius series)
Final Fantasy Adventure (AKA Seiken Densetsu AKA the ORGINIAL Secret of Mana)
Double Dragon 2
Mega Man (in particular IV and V)
Castlevania: Belmont's Revenge
Castlevania: Legends (just picked this up for $25 complete, BTW:D)

I could go on and on. I still have a lot more games I want to get my hands on. I think I'll go on record and say that I'm in negotiations with someone to acquire most of his collection. It's going to take awhile to get everything but, I will definitely post some pics when I'm done getting what I want on the system.

I'm trying to think of the name of this game - I think its a GBC cart. It's part of the Megami Tensei series, though it's not in the title...

LOL. I love classic games and appreciate 2D more than current gaming, but, again, the vast majority of those games (not everything obviously) are not nearly as good as their NES/SNES counterparts. For every quality original title such as Metroid II or Link's Awakening there are dozens of ports that are poor in quality and manufactured simply because of the GB's ubiquity in its heyday.

I've always been a fan of the system and the nostalgia it brings. I own the 7 games mentioned and could conceivably get others, but in wanting to play good games on all systems versus exclusively collecting for the sake of it one can safely rule out a large portion of the GB library.

I never realized that the Game Boy had so many ports of fighting games. They're so bad, and yet I must have them all.

Here's what I know of:

Mortal Kombat 1-4
Street Fighter 2
Street Fighter Alpha
Battle Arena Toshinden
The King of Fighters '95 & '96

Anyone know of any others?

World Heroes 2 Jet.
Fatal Fury 2.
Real Bout Fatal Fury Special.
Samurai Shodown.
Samurai Shodown III.
Killer Instinct.
Primal Rage.
Fist of the North Star.

Also keep in mind that SF Alpha is a color only game.

I'd avoid the Street Fighter and MK games. They were terrible unplayable ports. Any that Takara did for the SNK games are much better and actually playable.

I mean, compare World Heroes and Real Bout:

I bought MK4 as a kid. It's one of the few games I've bought that gave me buyer's remorse.

Not exactly a port but, Transformers Beastwars is a gbc fighter by Takara. Awesome fighter in my opinion. Gameplay and sounds are quite similar to kof and realbout on gameboy.
