What I have is a dedicated 4 slot Neo Cab. It's in the original neo-geo cabinet and I have not messed with the wires or connections. If the machine stays on for a while it will sometimes go to a black screen and say Z80 error. Now I have seen it said that this is some kind of sound problem and could mean you have blown your sound processor. My sound works though right up until I get this screen. When I restart the machine the sound works and everything is cool again. Then after a while it goes black and gives me that error. Any ideas?

Im taking a wild guess here. The z80 sound processor becames too hot and dies? During the time taken to reset the z80 cools down enough to function and then heats up beyond safe levels again? - As I said it's a wild guess. I'll ask around.

hmmm, that sounds reasonable. So something as simple as a fan in there might do the trick?

The MVS was made to sustain heat, so more likely it would be better to just swap out the board entirely. Or try the fan as a temporary fix.

Why would the fan only be a temporary fix? I can fit a little fan in there pretty easy that should keep that area cool.

haha you wont need a fan on that processor,i have a fan on my athlon 1200mhz chip ya but a z80(3.64mhz) er no.
What you need is a heatsink, get one from an electric shop, there just square bits of metal with ventalation vaines just affix to the surface of the chip(watch out for static)to affix it you could use heatsink
paste but some just use glue, the metal will soak up the heat.if that is your problem of coarse.

Well I have had a fan running on it all day and that seems to have done the trick. I am sure as soon as I post this I'll get the error again <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> But this is the longest it has ever stayed on so I think that might have been the problem. My left speaker is still really weak though, I can barely hear anything out of it. I have read that you can't use the 4 slot in a standard Jamma harness or the sound will get screwed up. However this is an original Neo Cab with all the original wiring. I suppose it could have been hooked up incorectly by whoever set it up still. I read that switching it to mono would help. Should I just un hook the left speaker all together?

Ok to answer your questions:

-why a temporary fix?

its an MVS board- it shouldnt have that kind of a problem to begin with, they are made to withstand lots of heat, and if you have it your house, it isnt even half as hot as an arcade. I'm just thinking of your future with that mvs board... sooner or later who knows what else might fail.

-about the speaker problem

Read that website I linked on your previous post. A standard JAMMA wiring will NOT work from the experience Ive had. Now mind you, this is only what I have experienced myself and what I have read, maybe the guy that sold it to you didnt have it wired correctly, lots of arcade people dont care if the sound sounds correctly as long as it creates noise when playing (you cant really tell in a busy, noisy arcade)

My advice:

check the wiring and compare it to the wiring on that website.
