after a few months of horribly 'last legs' sounds coming from the psu's fan, everything finally went silent. the power supply is still working, but the fan is dead, so i'm looking at replacing it. i yanked one out of an old pc psu, but i wanted to double check something:
what needs to be the same? the original fan is a dc 12v 0.12a; the one i've salvaged is a dc 12v 0.24a. so it's just the amperage that's different. is this cool? (probably a super basic question, but it seems worth asking since i'm not at all sure). thanks.

edit: hmm, from what i can gather elsewhere on similar matters, the amperage doesn't matter... also, and this is gonna seem wayyy lamer... the fan should be taking air *in*, right? feel like a dumbass for asking, but i never actually took note of it before. i'm assuming so, judging by what a disaster it was inside, dust-wise, but if somebody can confirm, that would be awesome. thanks...

cool, thanks. i know it used to be blowing out on the pc supply that i pulled it from, but since the neo one was dead when i pulled it, i wasn't sure which way *it* had been blowing.

Fans in power supplies and cabinets blow out to draw excess heat away to prevent themselves from overheating.

yeah, the main thing that threw me was that the vent which had the fan mounted was internal, so it'll be blowing air out of the psu and into the cab, while drawing outside air in (i'm assuming) through the 'unfanned' vent that accesses outside air. which makes sense when i think about it, but i think i thought it odd at the time that it was venting internally.
no matter... thanks for all the help, it'll be great to be up and playing again.

Most fans have little arrows molded into the plastic that show the air flow directions. Look at all sides of the fan for them.

hmm, the arrow would seem to indicate that it was an intake fan originally. guess i'd better go that route. (it *would* explain the ridiculous layer of dust that coated everything...)
