Okay, my obsessive/compulsive disorder is killing me with these two monitors. I have two very nice Nanaos sitting side by side. One is, I would say, perfect. The other, I notice is a hint greener. If I didn't have the other game, I probably wouldn't even notice or think about this, but....

So, after all the adjusting in the world, I can't get them to match. When I turn up the brightness to match the other, green tints sort of come out of everything. Browns are a bit greenish, the greys seem greener... it's not good.

My question: Is this needing a cap kit, or will caps really help with this sort of issue? For years, I thought that's what cap kits were for, but now I understand that transistors on the neck board control the colors? Should I replace the three transistors on the neck board (assuming the are ON the neck board) first? Does this seem likely? If I crank my blue up enough, I can get it to almost look the same, but I have to crank it high enough where it starts to bleed out, which (of course) is stupid.

Little help? Nanao ms26u is the monitor, if anyone can direct me as to what I should do, that would be awesome.

EDIT: Since both monitors are the same, I suppose I could swap the neck boards and see if the issue moves. I've never done that before. Should I discharge the monitor if I'm only removing a neck board?

If you're only removing the neck board itself, you may get away without it. If in doubt, dischage the monitor. Better safe than sorry.

Not to derail your new thread, but how's that playchoice working out?

AWESOME

Back to the Nanao. I only see one knob to control green... is that normal? I just looked at it, and the monitor is so damn nice that if I only I am missing something, it would be perfect. No cut off on Nanaos anywhere? As for transistors, do they go bad just a little to cause such a minor issue? If I didn't have two of these, I would most likely have zero clue there was a problem.

Always discharge before handling any monitor component (chassis, neck board, CRT).

Transistor usually will work or not work, however a resistor connected to transistor could have gone s/c (unlikely).

In my extreme idiocy, I found that there were only three of six knobs I was adjusting for color. There were three harder to get to, and not very knob looking pots behind the first three that were cut offs.... I turned the green down a hair, and now both are fantastic looking. I couldn't be happier (or more stupid for that matter). How embarrassing.
