hello guys,
just got a neo aes serial 007744, with pro pow supply,(jap)
when power on nothing happen,
i heard that the guy owned it before me connected the system with a 10v euro power supply,

any idea of what can be burned or something after that?

system is in good shape so i will be happy to reparing it !

i had been running my japanese NEO AES
through a step-down transformer
since i got it last month, but
someone here told me that that was completely
unnecessary, and that running it without
the step-down was totally safe.

that's what i've been doing for the last couple weeks,
without incident.

you've got me worried now, though;
perhaps i should go back to using it?

Open it up and verify which PSU is needed. Hopefully it is a real +5v system which means it would have the power regulator. Some people convert a +9v system to +5v and don't put a regulator in.

Do you get no picture or audio?

for master tasuke : i need to use a stepdown because in belgium ac voltage is 230v, and pins from the power supply are not the same .

and i have no audio and no picture , system don't start, where is located the regulator you talking about?

i will try to test the power supply first,

hope this system can be back to life again...

i will post later when i have time a picture of the aes pcb.

thanks for your help :buttrock:

The regulator is right by the reset button. You will either have a 5 pin or 3 pin. 5 pin is +9v and 3 pin is +5v. It's usually right below the reset button but once in a while it's to the left.

he is on the left below the reset button and he have 3 pins,

so the system is on 5v for sure.

if the guy before me put a euro 10v power supply on it, do you think that the system is dead? i think euro power supply is not the same polarity too, that can do some damage , right?

Check the diodes along the left side of the board, maybe one of them is fried. The Euros should have the same polarity, just weak PSUs.

5v systmes have a transistor, not a regulator.

Some older systems are retrofitted to 9v by having a small board with regulator located back between the cart slot and the back edge of the board.

The key is looking for that transistor looking IC that has 5 pins on it and a metal tab.

That's what I meant. Sorry.

Never seen that before. Are they usually on 1st gen?

RJ, you got a pic of it by chance? I would love to see it since the 1st gen always has a lot of things going on in it.

Weak? I think you'll find both versions of AC adapter output almost the same amount of power :)

They are weaker. 10 watts and 7.7 watts is lower than 15 watts. I had a system that used a Neo Pow 3 and when it was upgraded with a Neobitz encoder we could no longer play Fatal Fury 3 so the buyer was pissed.

i have a little bit time today for try to fix the system,
first test is the power supply : infinite resistance on primary..
i think he is out, no way to open it , i don't have the special bit for,
and i don't have any replacement supply for testing the aes..
shit!

Calm down.

Testing input resistance ONLY works if it's a transformer based power adapter. If it's a switching power adapter you won't read it like that.

Check the output voltage with your multimeter. If it's zero then you need a new adapter. (But first, make sure you are reading it correctly!)

Adapters can sometimes be repaired, but opening them can be tricky. They are a sealed unit where the 2 halves are glued or sonic welded. Take a hammer and firmly whack the short side of the split and you'll be able to eventually pop it open.

Did a more powerful PS resolve the problem? I think I might be having a similar issue with one my AES. I have a Neobitz and it works like a champ..save for when I try games like Matrimelee, KOF2K3 and SSV. I only get a blue screen with those games.

Yes it did. Try to use a +9v PSU with at least 2amps.

a 9v ps on a 5v system will not destroy it?

i used a 5v 4amp supply here, this is the supply i use for the consolised mvs and h64;

another thing now with this aes, sound is distorted with a lot of games, fatal fury 1 work, samurai spirit 1 sometimes, fatal fury 2 and samurai 2 don't..

i cleaned the games( the games works on another system)
and i cleaned the pcb cart connector, but no success .
when i move the game when power is on sometime sound become normal for a few minuts.

No no. I was talking about a system I had.
