Alright, my trusty Cyberhome 300 DVD player finally shit out tonight.

I've isolated the problem to the motor that drives the laser assembly along the track (not the spindle motor, which is working great).

I can't find my camera, so here's a pic of one like it:

And here's what it says on my sticker:

M.T.C 3.0V.CW
05-07-12
CCM03-030R1-6B

Will the part in the picture work or will I have to get a super specific one?

I don't see why it wouldn't work, but I have to wonder why you'd waste your time & money on repairing a cheap piece of shit.

my advice; get yourself a PIONEER DV-09;

as you can see,
it's built to last the ages.
it was originally a $2000.00 player in 1998/2000,
but today, you can get one for between $100-$300 off the BAY,
usually depending on cosmetic condition and completeness.

I don't see why it would not work. If you can find the part for next to nothing online, I guess it would be worth doing.

Or.......

use this as a good reason to upgrade.:vik:

Thanks for the input...I'm definitely going to upgrade soon and have a kickass region free player picked out but I'm waiting on the funds.

In the meantime I ordered a motor...we'll see if it works.

Those cyberhome 300 dvd models do great with the region free mod but dang they die off fast. We bought a bunch for the school I work at for all the Profs tha would go out of country on breaks or study abroad. They always come back and ask why the DVD they bought in Russia, India, or Brazil of some street vendor for $4 bucks don't freaking work in their machine at home. Go figure. Anyways I just had a few at work take a dump on us all within a week or so's time. Some it was the motor and a few just wouldn't output video anymore. Oh well. Let us know what you find out with the motor.

If you can't source that part you could also try getting the part number off actual DVD drive and just try to buy a whole replacement DVD drive.

But like the others said DVD players are pretty cheap now and region-less DVD players are pretty easy to find. Chances are extremely good that the $20-30 off-brand DVD players you find in a Wal-Mart or Target have codes that can be input to make them region-less.

My home DVD player is one I had bought at CompUSA a few years ago on sale for like $12-13, which was like $10 off the retail. Not top of the line but it plays most of my region 0,1,2, and 3 DVDs like a champ. And it beat the pants of my former DVD player, my PS2.
