Is there any way to replace one of the eproms on a KOF2003 board, not the MVS cart. The eprom at P3 got cracked, so is it replaceable or has the board become trash?

You should be able to replace it with one programmed with the code out on the MAME archives.

I have some on the way, but don't have 'em yet.

Which chip is it?

Also, are you sure it's 8Mb? The MAME dumps for the PC Board version show up as 16.

There are three EPROMs one the board:

M27C4001-10F1 marked M1
one the sticker is covering the chip but looks similar to the broken one, marked SPJ
M27C800-100FI marked P3

hmmm... actually I can't do math... they are 128Mb chips.

OK, the P3 is an 8Mb chip and I'm downloading the ROM set for it now. Did you need the chip replaced or can you do it without damaging the board?

I should be able to do it without any problems, makes me wish I had gone for that desoldering station though.

When replacing the broken chip, to make your life easier, cut all the pins off the cracked chip first. Then desolder and remove one pin at a time. Much less likely to damage the through plating that way. And once you get it out, you can even install a socket.

Would you mind if I put those pics up on my site?

I'm going to be doing an "image gallery" for not only repairs we do, but for projects that customers use our parts for.
