Hi,

Are these any good? I've recently bought a Neo Geo CDZ and am looking to purchase a consolized MVS, but wondered if there are any good games on the Pocket?

I'd appreciate any honest opinions...

Cheers, Lee

The list of bad games on the pocket is much shorter than the list of good ones.

Cardfighters, MOTM, PuzBob Mini, Sonic Pocket, Faselei, Dark Arms, Neo Turf, the two Slugs are ok. Can't comment much on the other fighters as MOTM is the only one I've played for more than 5 minutes.

Yeah, there are definitely some good ones, assuming you can appreciate GameBoyColor era games. The Metal Slug games are excellent. CardFighters Clash is awesome if your'e into that sort of thing. I think the vast majority of the fighting games play well for what they are, with Match of the Millenium probably being the best of them. Dark Arms is good... Yeah, there are definitely some good games there. The only ones I don't think are worth playing are the slot machine games.

I'll list every good & bad Neo Geo Pocket game I've played and this still won't cover all the good ones, I'm sure...

--Good or great games--

Card Fighters Clash (Capcom or SNK)
Gals Fighters
Neo Turf Masters
Fatal Fury First Contact
Dark Arms
Bio Motor Unitron
Metal Slug 1st Mission
Metal Slug 2nd Mission
The Last Blade
Puzzle Bobble Mini
Match of the Millenium
King of Fighters R2
FASELEI!

--Mediocre Games--

Ogre Battle and Pocket Love ~if~ are great, if you can read Japanese or don't mind playing them with a guide.

Cotton is another good choice.

The Dive Alert games are alright, if you like submarine sims and have a good imagination.

Sonic Pocket Adventure

Personally, I'd place these 3 in the good games category.

there are a lot of great games on it, but as far as i'm concerned, it only needs one.
i bought my neo geo pocket colour to play faselei!, and if i'd never bought another game, i'd still feel it was well worth it. everything else (amazing as a lot of it is) was pretty much just gravy for me.

Is Faselei really that good? Is it a straight classical RPG?

I always wanted to get this game in the EU-version but as it is quite expensive I never got around to it.

Wouldn't say that... it's a strategy RPG.

You have mechs that you do battle in and you can get parts to upgrade & change your abilities. I'm not even doing the game justice though, becuase it's just about how excellent everything works together in that game. It's arguably the best Neo Geo Pocket game.

if you don't care too much about having a complete one (box and all), you can usually pick it up pretty cheap. i remember years ago, a huge number of them suddenly turned up (an unsold stockpile of NOS unreleased us versions or something?); anyway the market flooded pretty quickly with english versions. the full UK release is still rare and expensive, but it's possible to get an english version without going that route. check ebay and such; i think they used to go for about $10-20 back then, probably not much more these days...

i'm a terrible person. grin.
is that the english, though, or the japanese that the neostore stocks? i feel like it was the jp version...

Master Tasuke:

Actually you don't want the Samurai Spirits Special Box to play it on, as that is just a B&W Neo Geo Pocket and not a color Neo Geo Pocket Color. They are separate systems and some of the color games...including Gals Fighter I believe, won't work on the older systems.

ps: stop posting pictures in every post you make..it's annoying.

It doesnt really play like those games though.

This one you get a certain set of actions per turn and have to input them all ahead of time and then they are carried out. So you dont move and then pick an attack and then maybe use an item. You have to put it in as a string command at the start and then just pray you didnt mess up as it happens.

I think Oekaki Puzzle is underrated. I own it and it is a must for lovers of Mario Pircross.
