Hello,

Would be great to get some advice from the tech guys here:

Ok, so my 2-slot is outputting RGB and sync from the jamma edge. I can easily handle this on my tv via SCART.... but I like a challenge.

So, is there a way to rig RGB+Sync to the "Component RGB" on the back of my TV? I think I read that the sync for this is sent through the "Y" cable somehow.

Or is there a really simple chip which would do this for me. JROK obviously would, but I'm happy buying and wiring a few chips.

Any help appreciated!

Is the component RGB you're refering to like the US component. with the 3 rca jacks colored RGB?

You can use a jrok or neobitz component encoder. There are DIY solutions available but for the work that's required, you might as well buy a pre-built one.

Are you planning on making one with a perf board?

The components needed to make an RGB>Component Encoder costs about $30-40 depending on where you get them from plus shipping. Since you aren't buying in bulk you pay a bit more. You can buy a premade component only circuit from JROK or Neobitz for about $50-55.

That's what I expect, but as I'm in the UK, I'm hoping there's a workaround.

Perf board or something similar.

I was hoping for a $25 solution, otherwise I guess I'll stick to scart :(

You can always get a scart to component converter but kinda pointless when you already have scart. RGB has a higher color bandwidth than component so you might see some picture quality loss. Not really worth it honestly. If you got $25 I suggest you pick up another game.

Dammit!

The main thing I wanted was a beautiful row of phonos at the back of the system :(

When I get an MVS can I just take the output from R, G, B and Sync on the edge connector and wire these to the appropriate pins on Scart to get a picture.

I'm wondering if I need a Supergun at all. If I get an MVS board with joystick ports, and sound output, will that be all I would need to get it up and running?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers, Lee

I'm in the UK too and you must be potty if you want to switch from RGB to component - horrible in comparison. If it is just a case of having a row of phonos on the back of your consolized MVS (if I understand correctly?) then jsut solder up a custom scart cable - standard scart plug on the TV end but just take the R/G/B, sync, switching and ground lines and terminate in phono plugs to mate up with sockets on your MVS - some can double up of course.

Can someone please post some comparision shots of RGB vs. component? I'm still not convinced that RGB is that much better than component.

Hi,

Can you just take tap R, G, B, Sync and Ground to an RGB Scart cable, or does it need an encoder? I may attempt to make my own consolized system if it's that easy?

Cheers, Lee

Hi Lee - replied in your other topic...no encoders etc needed for us lucky RGB UK folk. :)

And component/composite is way inferior to RGB although component beats composite but seriously nothing tops the purity of direct RGB on a classic Panasonic or Sony 4:3 CRT.
