I have a LN46a650. picture started today going to a scrambled green/pink screen then the tv will reboot and try again. I'll get a decent picture for a while and it will do it again. The source doesn't matter either, as it did it with my ps3 and pc. I already unplugged it for 2 hours and turned it back on. same deal. probably let it sit overnight. Just over a year old so warranty is no good. :annoyed:

I know absolutely nothing about hdtv's, hoping this is an easy fix.

Are you using an interlaced signal or progressive? Also sometimes these TVs do this when it's on auto select for signals. Try manually selecting the correct signal.

manually selected 1080P. nothing about my setup has changed at all. the fact that it's powering down is what's really bothering me. The picture will be fine, until it flashes scrambled green/pink then it resets.

Try defaulting the TV and see if anything changes.

This is my new favorite channel:

Seems to do it more frequently as the television is on longer. Like something is overheating. Doesn't care about inputs, I had it sitting on channel 3 fuzz and it still freakd out.

My friend has an earlier model samsung and the picture would blink out when the heat came on in the house. It only did it when it was set to like 1080i or 720p or something...very weird, and then I think it only happened over HDMI.

Sounds like a faulty video processor LSI chip on the main pcb. You may be able to isolate the IC using freezer.
Bottom line is to replace the main printed circuit board. Should be some where around $300-500.
You could try installing a fan as a work around.

Failing power supply caps?

Well, I don't see anything that screams trouble. None are swollen or leaking. I'm not used to checking capcitors that are integrated into a circuit. (I work on AC's can pull the run/start capacitors free to check) However I'm assuming the two big 450V 150uF are being used in conjunction with each other, when I throw my meter on one it charges up to 265uF (should be around 300?)

going to cost me $125 just to get someone to look at it.

Sounds like it's probably the main board. Either way, I'd be spending around 200 just for the service another couple hundred for the part. Guess I'll be off to costco...

I believe you, the company quated me around 500 for a new board. I could buy a decent 32" for that much.
