Monitor diagonal interference

I have a WG monitor in my candy that has some diagonal interference. The interference will come and go (scrolling down, stop, then scroll up). My monitor is also a bit noisy and I am having a hard time finding where the noise is coming from. It seems like it might be from either some of the caps or this one part that looks like a spool of copper. The interference has slowly gotten worse since I first brought my cab home (noise has remained the same). I have done some research and found that this could be caused by the monitor ground, or the power supply.

Is there anyway to determine what is wrong/needs to be fixed with my monitor, or do I begin troubleshooting with the ground? If it is the ground, how hard is this to do and can I do it myself? I am new to arcade cabs, but want to learn and do my own work. Thanks for any help!

I've had this problem quite a few times, and in my cases I just needed to add an additional ground. A lot of times I'd just run a ground wire straight from the ground on the power cord to the monitors chassis, other times I've had to remove grounds from the ground block that were causing the interference and double check everything for continuity.

Thanks for the information. I am guessing the ground block is the block mounted on the inside back of the cab (Windy candy cab) with what looks like 6-8 ground wires coming off of it. I know my cab is a mess with a ton of random green and yellow ground wires attached sporadically wherever there is a piece of metal and a screw.

How can I test for continuity with the ground wires and should I go over every ground wire? Also, are there any resources on how many ground wires and from/to what for a candy cab?

Also when you say run a ground from the power cord, how would that work? The candy cab has a Japanese cord with only 2 prongs. Again thanks for all the info!

There's usually a wire attached to a metal piece on the outside of the cab that's hanging off. On the inside alot of the grounds will be connected to that same point. That normally gets connected to the screw (ground) on your electrical outlet.

it could be as simple as linking the earth and common on the power supply, otherwise it may be just some service required for the chassis-like you said maybe caps

Thanks again for the info! Now can anyone direct me in the right direction for information on how to check/ground the monitor? I am an extreme newb with this stuff and want to learn how to do it. I tried searching online and couldn't find any resources. What would I need to check voltage of the grounds and what is an acceptable reading? Thanks again for all the help!

Usually running an additional ground wire from the monitor to the mobo ground will fix this.

I came across this and was wondering if getting a wire and hooking it up to the ground prong on an extra plug and plugging that into my surge protector would fix my interference. The only thing is, I never (and have never) been shocked by my candy like a lot of other people who have had to add the earth ground. So could this fix my problem?

If the earth ground doesn't fix the interference, how would I go about doing this?

Do candy cabs have a monitor chassis besides the big front metal plate with a handle for installing/removing the monitor? Thanks again for the help!

I hooked up the earth ground to the candy cab for safety, and hoped it might fix the interference, but it didn't.

Where is the common ground on a candy (is it the earth ground screw where a lot of the grounds seem to end)?

Do I connect a ground wire to one of the ground points (I think they are screws) on the monitor chassis, or should I connect a ground wire to the metal mounting sheet that mounts the monitor chassis to the candy?

Do I have to worry at all about connecting a wrong ground? Again, I am new to this and am slowly learning my way through it. Thanks for any help!
