Connecting Xbox 360 to 15khz monitor?

Just curious, I'm looking at solutions for getting my 360 hooked up to an Astro City, and it seems like the simplest solution would be to simply get a J-PAC and hook it up that way, but I'm not sure what the video quality would be like doing that. Does anyone have experience with this or have a better solution that would work?

Your astro takes vga right?

ALL you would need to worry about are the controls... and the sound

Check some hacking guides for them.

The jpac can't downscale the vga connection to the 15khz. You would need a UVC or another device to bring it down. Then you have to do some pad hacks for the controls.

Padhacking will just be manual labor. The downscaling will cost you some coin.

Isn't the entire point of the J-PAC to connect a VGA source to a 15khz monitor though? Unless there's something in the 360 signal that prevents it from working. or some other detail I'm missing.

Point of the Jpac is the controls, and to amplify a 15khz signal.

Jpac is meant to be used with a 15khz video card (arcadevga) and other 15khz signals.

Overall, what you would need to do is hack a HD cable....

Would be easier than hacking a vga cable. The VGA cable does not carry the 15khz signals on all the lines.

Once you fix the jumpers on the HD cable, Red is Red, Blue is Blue, Green is Green and Composite video is Composite sync.

Then you might need to amplify the signal from there.

Ah, gotcha. I thought it might be something like that. Thanks for the link, I'll have to look into this.

How about a scan converter like this?

http://www.extron.com/product/product.aspx?id=vsc100

Sorry to keep posting like this, just looking for solutions before I relegate myself to trying to hack cables and circuits and such.

Even with those products, you are going to have to hack something.... To put it in a Jamma Setup. Then you still have to amplify it....

You don't need to convert a signal, You merely need to tap the correct signal.

For the video:
Get an Xbox SCART cable.
Get a Ultimarc J-Pac
Cut off the SCART End
Wire in a DB-15(HD) connector.

Okay, so I did a little poking around and went to hacking my Xbox 360 HD AV cable to output RGB. I can actually get a picture now if I don't hook up the composite sync wire, but when I plug that in, my picture goes blank (the picture is there, but obviously scrolls without the sync). After a little research, it seems I need to connect the composite sync to a lm1881 circuit in order to strip the composite video signal from the composite sync wire. Is that an accurate analysis?

Sorry to say but that's somewhat misleading. Andy recommends for people that aren't using an ArcadeVGA card they most likely will need an inline video amp.

All the J-Pac does on the video end is make sure the signal is the correct depending on the jumper setting. If the signal is not correct it won't allow it to goto the monitor. The J-Pac basically protects the monitor from being damaged by an improper source signal.

Out of curiousity would I be able to simply hook up an Xbox 360 to a D9400 WG monitor, since it does Multi-Sync?

http://www.wellsgardner.com/products/details.asp?iCat=2&iSubCat=36

I picked up a World Series Baseball Naomi stand up cab (very similar to the Naomi Universal Cab design) and wanted to put my 360 in it essentially to play KOF XII, and some of the Cave Shmups. I'm curious because I don't want to fry my 360, or the monitor for that matter simply by plugging it in to the vga output on the monitor, and I wanted to make sure I have all my bases covered.

Also would it be possible to use an XRGR2+ and play my PS3/PS2 as well?

Website says that it has an onboard amp.

Ahh, I didn't realize that you needed the 1881.

You might want to get one of these:
X-BOX AV to Arcade Monitor/Speaker Adaptor
http://ultimarc.com/JShopServer/section.php?xSec=8

It has an RGB amp and Sync Separator in one pcb.
Detach the Xbox cable and put on your own 360 cable... Or better yet, Wire them both to a D-Sub and switch between the two!

I can get you the pinouts if you need them...
