Cover, it sure as hell won't hurt... and the vague chance exposure to UV light does happen, your chips and data will be safe... nice strip of black electrical tape will keep them safe!

It erases them completely (that's what the small windows is for).

Its not a big issue unless you leave your eproms windows up in the blistering sun of the Arizona desert. Entombed in a cab within a cart shell no problems, but for piece of mind cover them imho glee
