I just received a 1 slot motherboard that I bought on ebay and was trying to test in my cabinet. Since my monitor isn't currently working because it needs a new flyback, I was wondering if there was anyway to know if the motherboard works without a monitor. I tried to listen for the boot up sounds, but I don't hear anything. The cabinet I'm using is jamma and I have the board switched to mono audio like it says, but I still get nothing. The red led on the board does light up. I don't know if it is stuck at an on screen bios setup and I need to push a button on the control panel, but any help would be appreciated. Also, if there are any members in the Hampton Roads area who would help me test it on a working cabinet, I would greatly appreciate that.

do you have a game in it?

lol I was just gonna ask that.

if theres a game inserted im sure you would hear the game sounds and music. Not sure if the boot screen and sounds come on if theres no game inserted since I never tried booting without a game inserted.

Yes there is a game in it, but I'm not sure if there is something wrong with the jamma wiring. It's a standard jamma that is wired correctly. Maybe something to do with the dipswitch on the board?

switch all of them to off. Then run it. Also clean the contacts on the cart.

I tried everything but still no sound. :( wish I could connect my computer monitor to it easily without having to splice any cables. I guess I'll just have to wait until my flyback arrives. I wish I knew some people in the Virginia Beach area who could help me out.

most computer monitors these days dont support 15khz sync, it wouldn't work anyway. though if you have an old amiga monitor around or anything else that can handle 15khz RGB you can wire up a quick and dirty adapter and try it.

Nope I don't, but I'm sure the board most likely works. I looked it over thoroughly and it looks like new. I'll probably look at the speaker wires to see if there are any breaks in the wire since the cabinet is a used one.

Make sure the volume is turned up on the board.

The volume is turned up all the way. The speaker makes a low hum, so I know it's getting power.

I may have found the issue. Since I'm new at this, I just noticed that there are no ground wires connected to e, 27, f, 28 on the jamma connector. That could explain a lot. I'm going to just order a new harness and rewire the whole cab. It could use some new wires. *Edit* I tried that and no luck. I'm going to call it a night and order some new parts tomorrow.

If there is anyone in the Hampton Roads VA area that can test the board for me I would appreciate it.

It's working! I decided to test it again and it appears that the speaker wires were not making good contact with the speaker leads. I can't tell you how beautiful the sound was. :)
