Hi guys,

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
Retro Gamer Issue #70 has been released and is available today throughout the UK. Most American shops that stock the magazine (i.e. Barnes and Noble, Borders etc.) are about a month behind, so look for it in early December.

This issue features a RETROINSPECTION on our beloved Neo Geo AES.
You might remember that our member, Strider (the editor of the magazine), solicited our forums for a contributor for the article. I was lucky enough to be picked for the task.

I actually have yet to see the final version of the article personally, but I am eager to get feedback from some members of this site. If any of you have read the article and have some thoughts, please post them here. It was actually a very difficult task writing the article. The biggest challenge was trying to turn my detail-oriented knowledge of the system into something "bigger picture" that game fans not familiar to the system could understand and appreciate... I simply did not have the time to cover everything I wanted, and have kicked myself for leaving certain things out. C'est la vie. Anyway, at the end of the day, I was hopefully able to tap into some of that magic of the system that all of the people here know and love, and perhaps attract some new people to the Neo. So, when critiquing, keep that perspective in mind. (and by the way, i hear there was a screenshot error with MOTW, not my fault, I swear!! :) ) So far, the feedback at the magazine's forums on the article has been hugely positive, but I am interested to get the perspective of some of the more hardcore Neo fans.

Special thanks go to Shawn and Chad Okada, both of whom contributed interviews for the article. Big thanks also to all my friends on the site and all the hardcore Neo fans in general for the help and inspiration. I hope you guys dig it, if nothing else to see our favorite system back in the "limelight" for a month or so!

Take care,
John

PS - by the way, perhaps once the next issue comes out, I will post the entire unedited interviews with Shawn and Chad Okada. Someone just needs to remind me. It's great stuff!

I've never bought an issue of RG before and after the debacle with the other "writer" from the magazine here on the forums I decided I'd continue that trend but I will buy this one. Can't wait to read it.

Is the Neo-Geo article also the cover story?

I suppose there is no turning back for me now! I'll have to check my mailbox for this issue :)

No, its about Mario and Nintendo or some shit...

Yep, after the Stu incident, they could do a 50 page retrospective on Sunset Riders and I wouldn't touch it. Worthless rag.

I would get it just because Geddon wrote an article in it. I support stuff like that.

Ja. Just fucking scan it. UK's copyright laws can go to hell.

Besides, the rest of the magazine is just going to be about old game developers who've aged to look like middle aged lesbians talking about which games they'd take on an island.

Oh come on. It's time to hang up the gloves and make peace.

That's $12 that can go to all the furniture I'm buying.

Besides, they were caught in a series of unprofessional lies, and said nothing.

I might as well then stick to the internet.

I got mine yesterday in the mail, so those of us in the States should be getting them around now.

Tonk, there is brief mention (and photo) of those two games, but no mention of recent sales or you. Most of Shawn's interview got cut too it would appear. I don't blame them though, the article stands well in it's current format without having a breakout interview with Shawn.

Hopefully I'm not in the minority, but I enjoyed the article.

Read the article today, enjoyed it.

But they wanted almost 15 Euros for the mag, import stuff sucks... I'm not going to shell out 15 Euros for one article!

Thanks for the feedback so far, guys!

I just got permission to post up the entire interviews. It was simply not possible to integrate more than a few lines from Shawn and Mr. Okada into the article...
Keep an eye out for the interviews, working on posting them up ASAP...

if a piece of furniture can be decided over $12, it's not worth owning.

buy the best, so that you will not regret it.

It was a good article and the magazine is worth subscribing to if you have the money. I no longer do so my subscription will be lapsing soon and I will be back at my local bookstore trying to read a copy before getting kicked out or needing to leave

You get kicked out? I read magazines and books today for 2 hours and they didn't kick me out.
