Hi guys,
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
Retro Gamer Issue #70 has been released and is available today throughout the UK. Most American shops that stock the magazine (i.e. Barnes and Noble, Borders etc.) are about a month behind, so look for it in early December.
This issue features a RETROINSPECTION on our beloved Neo Geo AES.
You might remember that our member, Strider (the editor of the magazine), solicited our forums for a contributor for the article. I was lucky enough to be picked for the task.
I actually have yet to see the final version of the article personally, but I am eager to get feedback from some members of this site. If any of you have read the article and have some thoughts, please post them here. It was actually a very difficult task writing the article. The biggest challenge was trying to turn my detail-oriented knowledge of the system into something "bigger picture" that game fans not familiar to the system could understand and appreciate... I simply did not have the time to cover everything I wanted, and have kicked myself for leaving certain things out. C'est la vie. Anyway, at the end of the day, I was hopefully able to tap into some of that magic of the system that all of the people here know and love, and perhaps attract some new people to the Neo. So, when critiquing, keep that perspective in mind. (and by the way, i hear there was a screenshot error with MOTW, not my fault, I swear!!
) So far, the feedback at the magazine's forums on the article has been hugely positive, but I am interested to get the perspective of some of the more hardcore Neo fans.
Special thanks go to Shawn and Chad Okada, both of whom contributed interviews for the article. Big thanks also to all my friends on the site and all the hardcore Neo fans in general for the help and inspiration. I hope you guys dig it, if nothing else to see our favorite system back in the "limelight" for a month or so!
Take care,
John
PS - by the way, perhaps once the next issue comes out, I will post the entire unedited interviews with Shawn and Chad Okada. Someone just needs to remind me. It's great stuff!
