Has SNK ever considered re-releasing Metal Slug 1 for AES?

From my limited experience with the Neo Geo (my system gets shipped today <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">), it seems that MS is the most-sought after AES cartridge. Any copies that pop up are super expensive due to their rarity and the excellence of the game itself. I even considered buying a conversion of it (!Arcade! has one posted on ebay at the moment for $300; ripoff or no?)

Since SNK is still releasing home carts (which will hopefully continue despite their financial troubles), why not do a run of MS? It would sell like mad! Of course it would suck for those of you who own the original; its value would tank. It would still remain a rare collector's item and maintain some value though.

So why not release the game again? Anyone ever try to start a petition or something? I'd volunteer my time and web space to build a site dedicated to the cause, maybe even an online submission form to gather names. How about it?

$300 is ok for a MS AES Conversion, if you like to have it with box and inserts etc.. Else you could find a cheap MS copy for MVS if you just like to play the game.

Due to SNK's finacial problems i think if they are able to nowdays more likely to release Metal Slug 4 for AES would sell more i suppose.

That's funny because I've been scanning SNK's website and I don't see them stating 'ANYWHERE' that they 'DO NOT' Re-release game titles.

I dont think my opinion is as worthy as many of yours since I havent been into this scene as long, but from what I can gather...

but Marwic, when you say just find a cheap mvs copy it sounded a little strange. Surely the mvs ver is the only one to get. After all if you want to play an arcade game in your home then it's mvs not aes...

Plus I heard Snk have gone into receivership. I know that saddens us who love their hw/sw, but if their end is inevitable surely we can't complain about people trying to keep things alive.

The whole point of owning a Neo Geo AES is to play arcade games in your living room. The game you play on the AES cartridge is the exact same game you get to play on MVS in the arcade. No difference. As a matter of fact, from what I understand, the home experience is often better thanks to added features and options.

The only thing we have to complain about is their abuse of our loyalty, reflected in their prices. They say if we want to keep this scene going we have to pay $$$.

Take a look at what N64 games cost when they debut. Not cheap. That's because the cartridge format is not cost effective. Therefore, a 700 meg cart like Metal Slug 3 means they have to charge out the ass if they hope to make any money. It's not a charity you know, it's a business. And in my short time here, it sure seems to me that SNK is more into the wants of the gamer than they are into the business side of things (hence the bankruptcy apparently). Which is exactly what prompted me to ask my original question:

What about a Metal Slug 1 re-release? If enough people want it, can they really afford to ignore it?
