I'm going to buy a CD system 'cause I don't wanna pay huge amount of money each time I wanna buy a cart... But I'd like to know if the CD system is like the cart one... If not, what's the differences? Am I doing the right thing? Please, help me! Thank you all!

You actually have another option: MVS. Its much more cheaper (most of the games) then the AES and plays the same.

The Neo CD on the other hand has loading times and the games stop at KoF 99. So not much of the newer games like Metal Slug 3,Garou Mark of the Wolves,King of Fighters 2000,2001(soon).

So I'm basically saying that the CD is far away from the cart system (the gameplay is the same but the loading times could spoil it). The older games dont have much loading time, but the newer ones do have long loading times.

The MVS and AES both don't got loading times. And many MVS games are in the same price range (many of the older games that is). The newer games are more expenisve trough.

I'd go with an MVS. But thats just my opinion, its your desission to make! Otherwise chek out the price Guides on this site, itl help you out allot.

If you are trying to cut back costs go with an MVS setup for sure but if you don't have the room/access to one you can go with a supergun. If all else fails and you don't want a Neo Homecart system then dive in and buy a CD system.

To Hakkun: If your low on cash MVS is the way to go, you can pick up games like Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 for less than $50! Older arcade jamma cabinets are pretty cheap these days plus you can get jamma boards to play in it as well (Black Tiger by Capcom comes highly recommended).

I agree with the others - MVS is definitely the way to go.

The home carts are nice (it's what I started my collection with), but the cost can get VERY prohibitive (especially with the rarer titles).

The CD system is fine for both older games and non-fighting titles, but unless you've got the patience of Job, don't try any of the newer, high-meg releases. The prices for the games themselves, however, are excellent.

MVS combines the best of both worlds, with the only caveat being that it takes a little more work to keep it up and running in tip-top shape. Also, unless you've got a cab set-up, it may not look as clean as either a dedicated CD or home cart system (if you're the type that cares about that kind of thing).

Ok. MVS is the arcade carts. they can be played in either a Neo arcade machine, With a supergun or supernova, they can also be played on the AES system with the Phantom-1 converter. OR you could wait along time from now... In a gallaxy far far away... for the AESII

But if you still want the CD system be sure to buy the CDZ system as it will cut down on those loading times.

well i say avoid the cd or cdz like the plague

depends what kind of games you wanna play, really

if you're in it for the older and smaller games,go for it

cd is a great choice

if you wanna play the biggest fighters and the flashy stuff like blazing star or slug x

go cart

I was in the same situation a few months ago. I decided to go with Neo CD, and I'm still happy with my decision as it is the most cost and space efficent way to collect and play Neo games. However, I wouldn't recommend the Neo CD to you over MVS, becuase it does depend on what games you want to play.

If you want a Neo to play games like King of Fighters or Last Blade, forget Neo CD, The load times do get out of hand on those fighters. Also no fighters past KoF 99 are available on Neo CD. However, other fighting games like World Heroes and Fatal Fury load pretty quickly.

If you want a Neo to play Metal Slug games, forget a Neo CD. Only Metal Slug 1 and Metal Slug 2 are available on Neo CD. And while these both play great on Neo CD in my opinion, you're still missing out on Metal Slug X and Metal Slug 3.

Shooters are all great on Neo CD. I haven't played a shooter on Neo CD that had too long loading times (including Pulstar). The only problem here is that Blazing Star is NOT on Neo CD.

All the older games work great, and I highly recomend Neo CD for games like Puzzle Bobble, 2020 Super Baseball, and League Bowling. All these games are excellent and they only load once for about 20 seconds right in the begining and then never load again. Plus, prices on these games only range from 10-30 bucks.

So if you're not really too concerned with the newer games that won't appear on the system, or with the KoF or LB, I say go for Neo CD. Like I said, the price is right and it saves space. Sure, MVS games can be pretty cheap for the older games too, but depending on how you want to play the MVS games, it will be more expensive than getting a Neo CD system and will take up a lot more space if you go with a Cabinet.

However, if you have $500 to spend and want the best arcade experience, go MVS and get yourself a nice Neo Candy cab.

BLAH! I bought a Neo AES Cart System back in August and have no regrets. Since I'm mostly buying classic titles right now, the games aren't too expensive. If you buy games made from 1991-1995, you'll probably finding yourself paying the same amount of cash as you would buying a brand new PS2 game.
The most I ever spent on a cart was $270, but that was for King of Fighters 2000. Games like Fatal Fury, Samurai Showdown, Magician Lord, and AOF, you probably won't spend anymore than $70 per title. Just shop around and you'll find good deals for carts. However, avoid Neo Geo Freak (NGF) and Buy Rite. They're rip offs and NGF has a bizarre fetish which involves destroying original SNK products and replacing them with their crappy imitations.

Mix it up a little bit.

For brand-new games that just came out on MVS, wait until they come out on home cart and play them on that (Metal Slug 3, KoF 2k). Get all of the old, cheaper carts that never came out for any other systems (League Bowling, Aero Fighters 2, Crossed Swords, Samurai Shodown 2, KoF 94).

For anything that is available on the DC or Saturn (Metal Slug, World Heroes Perfect, Waku Waku 7, Fatal Fury 3, KoF 95-99, Last Blade 2, Magical Drop II, Garou:Mark of the Wolves), go for those.

For everything else, get an MVS converter for your home system.

You may not get the full monty, but you still get basically the same game.

Just my opinion.

you don't need a cart system though. I advise MVS (though I go by cart) if you want to buy a new game every few weeks as opposed to every few months. You cannot just jump into the neogeo collecting scene from the mainstream console scene and its <$50 games. You'll go nuts or poor fast.

SNK no longer supports the Neo CD with software. Unless you're looking to save some money, you'd be better off buying a cartridge system.

I actually plan on selling my Japanese AES Cart System soon. Nothing is definate, but most likely in a couple of weeks I'll end up selling it since my US system should be fully repaired and good as new. If something comes up, maybe we could negotiate something? I'm not a rip off and I try to be fair when I do business.
