Don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I'm going to post it anyways. Hopefully somone can help me out.

I bought a Vaio laptop back in June. It came a with a voucher that allowed me to get a free copy of windows 7 when it came out. I filled out the voucher and e-mailed it in. The next day I returned the vaio and replaced it with a Macbook.

I got the Vaio Windows 7 Disc in the mail yesterday. I have a Windows Xp Pc in my room. Will this Sony Vaio Windows 7 disc work eventhough I don't have the vaio anymore, or will it ask for a vaio receipt or serial #? Its the home premium version. It does not say upgrade on it.

Seeing as the computer manufacturers wouldn't have access to Microsoft's source code, it should be the genuine article. Yeah, I believe that disc will work with any computer.

I should be getting my disc soon as well, and I was told that it will be the full version, not an upgrade.

The disc won't be locked to the particular machine. However, it might be locked to computers made by that manufacturer. For example, Dell discs will only work with Dell machines. You can however use a retail disc on a Dell machine. I've never worked with Vaios before, so you can only try it out and see how it goes :-)

Windows 7 doesn't require nearly the resources vista did, so his xp machine might run it just fine. I've heard of it running just fine on netbooks with only a single core 32bit 1.6ghz processor and 2gb of ram or less, so assuming his xp machine can beat those specs it should run it just fine.
