any way to convert the image to horizontal orientation without physically rotating a monitor? currently I'm using a supergun I made and using it with my projector. So physically rotating the ceiling mounted projector is outta the question lol

I doubt there's any way around this, but though I would ask anyway... maybe this is my excuse to buy a candy cab with a rotatable monitor?

there's one on craigslist in my area for $900 but the wife would kill me! I might of been able to pull it off if it was closer to Christmas lol

There's all sorts of video processors out there, but they're way over the $900 range.
I was looking for one to flip an image about the vertical axis once. The ones I found cost a few grand.

My solution was hooking the game up to a video capture card in my PC and doing the flipping in software. Works out pretty well. That PC also happens to be hooked up to my TV too, so you could do the same and hook up your PC to your projector.

Here's a neat site too:

You use a projector. Perfect! Should have thought about this before you mounted it. It's not like arcade boards are made to be flexible for all of your home theater whims. If you can't be more flexible, you won't make it long in this hobby.

If your projector has separate inputs for Hsync and Vsync you can possibly get a sync separator and switch the sync lines.

I'm planning to get a projector and put it on a shelf so I can flip it. With a name like "Supergunner" you whould be more flexible. That's what this hobby is about.

okay I wasn't gonna say anything before but this is the second time you make a comment about me not being flexible? sorry I don't want to remove my ceiling mounted projector that I use for Blu-ray movies with my family, sorry that bothers you so much.

I will hold off playing this contra pcb till I get a candy cab. I have many other Horizontal orientated pcbs to play in the mean time.

comments like "you won't make it far in this hobby, and being flexible is what this hobby is all about" are not needed. Relax.

no wonder you have 4,603 posts. you just post nonsense and useless comments.

Suppergunner needs to chill out a bit...especially when you call out Neo Alec for making 'nonsense and useless comments'.

Since I also own a projector I agree with Supergunner. There is no way I can rotate my projector and have it look right. For one I have a custom made screen and frame, no way to rotate that since it's mounted to the wall, plus rotating a 77" image isn't going to fit right with it shining on my center speaker and frame.

Just wait till you get a cab, seriously. That's the only way to play vertical PCBs without having to flip your projector/TV on it's side.

My projector specifically says not to have it at an angle more than 30%, so I don't think rotating it would be good either.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just stating my opinion. I'm making the point that superguns are not consoles. Arcade boards are not meant to be user friendly. I've had to rig a lot of games over the years to get them working the way I needed. What I've learned is that you have to be willing to go with the flow. I have Super Contra, and I had to play it on a small TV that happened to allow me to rotate the screen, because that's what I had at the time. You are going to run into far bigger hurdles in this hobby than "I can't rotate my projector." I understand your issue -- if you can't change the projector, you can't change it. But keep in mind what you're asking for isn't insurmountable. There are a lot of things that your PCBs will simply never do.

Why are you being rude? I don't say these things about you.

I thought he was being rude to you about your comments. If I mistook that post as such, then I humbly apologize for it.

You were implying that I make a lot of "nonsense and useless comments." I just post what I think, and am still always surprised when many people don't agree.

Again, I'm sorry if what I posted in this thread came off as rude or callous toward the topic-starter. I just felt his expectations could use a bit of friendly recalibration.

It's all cool. I should've worded mine with a bit more clarity than I did. As I looked at my post, it did appear like that and that wasn't my intention at all. At the least I've learned the limitations of projection systems.

Guess I've been overly sensitive lately. Thanks for the clarification.

Switching sync will not rotate the picture. The sync signal basically syncs the video data w/the hblank/vblank period of the monitor. It doesn't have anything at all to do with orientation.

I think maybe I misinterpreted not what you said, but more how you were saying it. anyway no hard feelings. contra is my first vertical board and I really didn't have any expectations of their being an easy fix to flip the image, just wanted to ask what others have tried. for me, waiting for a candy cab is best. I have had other issues with taito/technos boards not playing on certain tvs, and sync issues and all sorts of other situations that come up with playing arcade pcbs. I know what its all about.

Aw, but your name is supergunner! Don't switch over to the cab team now.

I think he was talking about using the seperator for projectors that require separate syncs. Not as a means to rotate the image.

Correct. I kind of worded it wrong and sounded like I was saying syncs are yokes.
