[highlight][UPDATE (11/19) -- all systems go! Midnight show on Friday, 11/20. Some folks are meeting at Chino Latino (right next door) at 9:30. Everyone welcome to join us!][/highlight]

The rumor mill is we're only going to get two midnight showings at the Uptown on 11/20 (Friday) and 11/21 (Saturday).

This may be the movie event of the Fall/Winter.

If you missed the thread in Unrelated, just bear witness to the TRAILER.

Let's get some hype going in this mutha--

This looks pretty funny; has that whole 70's action jive to it. Was this some kind of low budget movie hence the limited release?

No doubt the plot is even very similar to the Rudy Ray more dolomite film "Disco Godfather"

The movie will probably be funny I would like to see it.

The movie was made this year, but is completely made in the style of classic Blaxploitation from the early 70s. It plays it completely straight, and mimics all the sometimes amateur camerawork and production values (which creates the comedic effect). As such, its been getting really good reviews of doing exactly what it set out to do and being just a hoot to watch.

Since it was made on a low budget, they've only got six prints. They had extended showings in other markets, but it seems they're switching to roadshow/festival screenings. The Landmark's own site indicates they'll have it on those two nights. I hope its expanded, but its starting to get close to all the Academy hopefuls that usually fill those theaters around this time of year.

Its confirmed that we're just getting the two midnight shows on Friday the 20 and Sat 21st.

I recommend Friday because I can go to the theater early and buy up as many tickets as we need if people are willing to pay me back.
