Hey there,
I have heard in the past 4-slots have caused permanent damage to MVS games, especially higher meg. like Sam 4/ MOTW. Is this true?
If so which 4-slot is the culprit? The bigger and older one or the slightly smaller and newer one?
And what is the difference between the two?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thanks

It is my understanding that there is only one 4 slot board with a part number of MV-4F? I could be wrong, but it looks like my line of thinking is correct when you check out Hard MVS.

I have a 4 slot, MV-4F. I've had it for 1.5 years and haven't had any problems yet. Ocassionally it won't play certain games in certain slots, but if you swap the game for a different slot, it works fine.

I've heard about people frying carts, but it's mostly due to a higher voltage setting on the power supply than is recommended.

Howdy,
There are 2 different case degisns, but the boards are the same. My motw and the bios got fried because of the power supply going wack, but oter than that, its been a good board.

BTW: Had it for 7 years

I exclude that the carts were damaged because of the board itself.

Cool read through the linked post.
Also can the batteries be changed on there boards? Do they die, if so what happens to the boards functionality?

The batteries can be changed. That battery is the battery that is used to remember your settings for your carts (I believe) and the ever important function of... the clock! Woo hoo! It's not a suicide battery like the Capcom boards.

MKL- thanks for that link. I never realized there were other boards for the 4 slot. Thanks!

I have a manual for a different model of 4-slot than the 4-slot board I own, & its dip switch documentation does not match the functionality of the dip switch settings on my board.
My board also has player-one and player-two quarters bank into the same credit counter (player one's counter).. if there are two credits in, or if player 1 is playing and there's one credit in, only then can player 2 start. Otherwise you must play as player 1. My memory of arcade examples tells me that not all Neo cabinits had this drawback, but that some did. My memory is shakey on this though. Maybe all 4-slots are like this.. but it would seem a design waste to have two credit displays and only ever use one of them.
I don't think I've checked my supergun wiring to make sure player 2's credit-button is sending the signal to the proper line on the MVS motherboard, though. So it might just be my wiring. But, again, memory tells me that there were Neo cabinits that behaved this way too.
