ok, I know very little about electronics and how they work, so if this is really obvious forgive me.

Is it not possible to make surface mount unibios chips?

removing the soldered bios chips and adapting them to a socket is an awful big pain in the ass, is there something about the style of chip used in the 1C (and other) boards that someone couldn't just make one?

I always thought it was the process of obtaining those same chips that was the problem plus you need a burner capable of doing those chips.

I have a programmer and an adapter to do it.... but no chips.

You can't find OTP versions of the 27C1024 chip... or EPROM versions...

And flash chips have different pinouts than the ROMs/EPROMs...

Now there are plenty of PLCC versions, but those don't fit.

I passed on a whole batch of otp 27c210 on the account that they were OTP, useless to me. You can still buy 27c1024/27c210 eprom it will just cost you since their obsoleted

The only time I tried to buy obsoleted OTP chips they came in as pulls and were already programmed. It seems chip brokers are morons.

You just rub an eraser on the top of the chip.

Made me think of the episode of the Simpson's where Homer was trying to get too fat to get on disability. He rubbed the chicken leg on the wall and it turned transparent from the grease. :D
