4PDT Neo/Jamma button change over switch. Instead of 7 button panel.

This idea has been kicking around in my head for a while. After owning a MAS supernova, I hated how they wired D to the bottom right button. The simplest answer is to make a 7 button panel, but sometimes there's A, no room. B you want to leave your 6 button panel as is. I got to believe this has been done before, but after spending 30 minutes working out the schematics. Here you go. This can be accomplished with a 4PDT (4 pole double throw) toggle switch:

Obviously you'd need 2 switches. One for each player.

Any 8PDT switches? Most I found were momentary.

I've personally never seen any. I searched grainger, didn't find anyting. 4PDT's are common, and you'd probably spend less money on 2 of them then tracking down a 8PDT

I found latching changeover push push 8pdt switches for $3.49, and leaf ones for $35, lol...

I don't know if either of these would work though, but they are out there.

You are right though, 4pdt are easier to find and most likely cheaper. Probably smaller too, as the leaf needed 3 inches of clearence behind the switch, lol.

For those who need a visual representation of the switch. (if you were looking at the bottom)

Mine is setup as:

Code:
P1--P2--P3
K1--K2--K3/Neo4

It works perfectly for me.

Personal preferance. I find having to cross your pinky under the ring finger is somewhat awkward. I much prefer this setup as all you need is to slightly bend your index finger. And it's closer to the big red style button layout.

True. But mine arent in a square formation, the top row is slightly to the left plus not all Neo games use 4 buttons. Plus I use usually saturn controllers.

Instead of switches you can always use nortons speaker terminal method if you want.

Also if the switch is 4PDT then the buttons would go the middle row not the bottom. This way when you toggle switch it changes the button scheme.

Or you might want to consdider a rotary switch.

It doesn't matter. I was just using the inputs as common, if you wanted to use the buttons as common it would look like this:..

Both do the same exact thing.

I remember that. Takes a lot longer with paint.

Layers FTW.

I don't know, but I'll take your word for it. Never had a real need to use anything else. I've done a ton of wiring diagrams on paint without issues, but none of them really needing detail or anything. That old supergun diagram was my first, lol. I've heard the Layers point before and some other more tech style design program I can't remember the name of. Maybe it's time to give it shot. :)

Hm, this is a nifty idea- I think I might implement this in a namco (psx) stick to change between default square and a remapped arc layout...
