So I collect art prints, but I tend to make an exception for --interesting-- video game art in various forms.

I like the work of Jude Buffum, Scott C and several others.

Doctor Octoroc, who doubles as a talented 8-bit musician, is terrific with his bead sprite art, where he uses beads to create a pixel-like rendering.

Voila:

He's taking commissions, which means if you have an idea you're willing to pay for --he'll make it.

I'm debating about one myself, I just need to think of a character I'd really like.

Thats friggin awesome! I don't even want to think of the time to pull the detailed information let alone do the bead work.

Damn, that looks sweet, always wanted to be able to do a few myself, I wonder if they use some kind of software to find out what goes where etc?

Reminds me of an artist I quite like called Invader, check out his stuff....

You can look through some of his work here...

Invader's interesting. I've actually seen his stuff in the wild (or possibly an imitation) when I was in LA --though I know he's been in LA. I think he's French.

That Slug is fucking awesome! I wonder what he charges for a piece that size?

BTW, if you haven't already, check out his Christmas album "8-Bit Jesus". Best Christmas album ever!

Hmm, I think they sell fusible beads at the store under my apartment... I am so making some Metal Slug sprites to put on my bulletin board :3

Haha, I remember making things with these beads when I was in grade school. I've been wanting to get some pixelblocks or whatever they're called to make some SNES game sprites...can't believe I never thought of using these, they're like a billion times cheaper, and permanent! :P

Totally gonna make it.

Best keychain ever? I think so. (Or cellphone charm?)

@Sn00t:
Sprite + Photoshop = enlarged printout with a grid around all the pixels.

Other than that, it's just a matter of picking out the palette :D

Nice arrangement, looks awesome. Go for it Bobak!
Ya Sn00t, to match the pixel color. I like painting and I do this often to match colors and shapes. Nice Invader stuff.

That would be a cool keychain.

Hmmm, normal fusible beads (5mm) make NEO-GEO sprites impractical for anything other than decoration ;o Even with the 2.5mm beads I saw (But which you can't seem to buy in the US) that second sprite might even be too big for a keychain ;<

I grabbed some more sprites I'd like to make. :P

I just got in contact to have him make my avatar, his estimate seemed reasonable so I'm going to see what he comes up with --I'll share it here once its done. I don't know how long it will take.

Sara made me a big Dan from MOTM one. The one where he's taunting and crying.

If you're going to have your avatar made at least base it on the original CFC art a la:

Why are you really paying this guy to do this for you though? Something like this is 1st grade level arts and crafts. It's a bit like paying someone to put together a Lego set for you.

I have no particular interest in doing it, and his price probably totals the rate I would pay someone to make it.

Finding matching color beads would also be hard. You have to have a good eye. Not as easy as it seems.

Would be interested in getting one done if the price is reasonable. That slug looks great. I don't think I'd have the time or patience to do one myself.

I would do one of the Metal Slug bosses. Maybe even a Terry Geese standoff.

I've got a quote, but I have no idea the size. Once I do, I'll post it along with the price I paid.
