Does KI do something wierd with Sync? It works fine in my cabinet, but not on my Supergun. I'm using a JROK encoder without a sync cleaner, would that take care of it?

The sync rate is fine it's 60hz and Midway boards usually have a clean sync signal.

Does your SG have -5v?

My supergun does have -5v. I've done some more testing since then. I've tried hooking it up to my monitor through component and it flashes between having a signal and no signal. It does the same thing when i hook it up to my projector. But, in the flashes when it acts like it has a signal, I actually see game video.

The projector doesn't have any options for that. My Sony LCD and Dell Monitors seem to act the same way. Capt I don't get any flashes of video, it just flashes the OSD onscreen like it's getting a signal from component and then losing it.

Try just plugging in the green. You should get a black and white screen.

K, I just tried 2 boards to test the theory. NBA Jam first, It does come up with Black and White video. Killer Instinct, still nothing. Even with just the green plugged in.

Hmm, it should work then. Is KI medium res or standard res? The JROK and Neobitz can only process standard res signals.

What are the PSU specs? And you do have the HDD hooked up, right?

The sync cleaner should have done the trick. You've got some exotic TV's there. Try hooking it up to a plain old TV with composite first.

Since we went through the checklist the only thing left is a Sync cleaner. If that doesn't work then I don't know.

You tried NBA Jam and got picture which means your SG is working via component. Plus KI is a midway board as well. Unless your board has a really dirty sync signal.

Cool man. Also any good SG should already have a sync cleaner. I guess yours was one of the rare midways that have a dirty sync signal.

I misread the original post as "JROK encoder with a sync cleaner." The solution here was obvious, in that case.

They are rare? I thought it was common with Midway boards. I've had sync issues with plenty of non-Midway boards too. It's not a rare issue at all, hence why a sync cleaner is an absolute necessity.

Midway boards with "dirty" sync, yes. Midway boards with a weird sync rate, no. In this case KI actually has a 60hz rate which is rare in the midway boards realm. Usually they are below 55hz.

I don't know the difference between a weird sync and a dirty sync. For me it either works or it doesn't. Sorry I misunderstood.

Dirty sync is when there is a lot of noise in the signal and on screen you get random colors most times and sometimes a pay-per-view type picture.

Weird sync is just in reference to the refresh rate of the sync. NTSC is 59.94hz aka 60hz, the Neo is 59.18hz which some TVs have a hard time displaying so you can imagine that if a PCB was outputting a 50hz or 54hz signal the picture would usually just roll or not even show.

I know that. I just don't notice or care about the difference for my purposes.
