just turned on the cab today for the first time in a while. It worked fine last time I played it, a few months back. Now it looks like this.

reseat carts and check +5 volts

I reset all of the carts a few time, tried just one cart, used different carts...no change.

As for the 5v. It's all of the way up. This psu is running a neo system and a naomi system, but has always worked fine like this. I unplugged the naomi system completely and the neo system still has the graphical errors. The only thing I can think off with this mobo is that the battery has been gone for a while. I have to swap the system to free game choice every time I boot it up, after a week of waiting or so. Maybe it leaked?

Could be it leaked on some traces. Snap some pics.

I don't see much, little dark spot around the bottom, but not much. I have those red foam pads under it, glued on, so it I didn't get that underside shot. I can tear them off I guess, unless you can tell if it's leaking from these pics.

Anything else that could cause this issue?

I tried it on another 4 slot cab and got the same results on the image.

In the bottom pic it looks like it's leaking from the bottom side. I would remove the battery anyway and just do the battery mod in the future. There could be some nasty stuff under it.

Any tips on removing the pad? blow dryer? or just rip it off?

I just tear it off. I sometimes use a stiff eraser to get the black stuff off.

cool...

also, the toshiba chip right next to it looks to be corroded on the battery side. white crystal looking stuff and some greenish goop on the metal pins. Time to buy a new mobo? or is it fixable? Looks like it got under the green film on the board too. I see some separating in one spot. Looks bad huh...

I think it's more like:

Remove battery
Clean area
Fix traces
Test Board

If you want to put another rechargeable one use one that has some clearance from the board so that if it starts to leak you can see it.

finally got a minute to get the battery and again wasn't sure what battery to get. I figured rechargable, but many said they needed to be charged before use etc...

can someone link me straight to one that would work so I at least know what to weed out.

thanks

You can use a 3.6v with at least 50mAh capacity. Most people use cordless phone batteries. Just remember that you only have so much space because of the upper board. If you put one on thats too thick it's better to mount it inverted under the board so you have enough room.

thanks! I was thinking of mounting it somewhere else using wires. Is there any problem with that? issues?

I would first wash that board. Use a multimeter and check continuity for all the traces surrounding the area. Also check under the board, too.

If you are still stuck, Channelmaniac can solve it. And cheaply.

I am having a hard time knowing what to look for. I have two pins on a chip near the battery leakage that the pins were completely green and after removing the green stuff, showed no solder connecting those two end pins....except on the bottom of the board where the pics go through. The green stuff seems to have worked it's way into those holes. The actual chip had some green on it where the metal goes down the middle of the chip too. I have multiple traces near the battery where the trace is black. time to pull out the multimeter...

If you are still stuck, Channelmaniac can solve it. And cheaply.

That would be nice. Thanks for the heads up.
